Distorted Times On Steemit: Two Users Complaining About Excessive Vote Buying While They Purchase The Top Trending Positions
How does it feel losing 3,000 US Dollars (in SBD) to promote one single blog post nobody will remember in a couple of hours?
That's what I just asked the author of the currently second most valuable blog post on Steemit.
It seems that the rest of the Steemit community is completely fine with the fact that pissing contests are honored with a considerable amount of Steemit's reward pool these days.
Right now two users are complaining about excessive vote buying and pissing at each other, while they purchase themselves the most valuable positions on the trending page.
My secret New Year's resolution was to not think, not care and not write about this screwed system anymore. As it usually happens with these resolutions, I just broke them.
I really don't get it. Is this the way we want this place to be?!? Enlighten me!
Marly -
Thanks for your valuable time!
This blog was launched at the end of July 2016
aiming to provide stories for open-minded
people who enjoy living on the edge of their lives,
stepping out of comfort zones, going on adventure,
doing extreme sports and embracing the new.
Welcome to the too-much-energy-blog!
Came for the rewards, stayed for...(???)

It’s really sad! I know, but we just don’t have the means to act to it! So just let them fight with downvotes and flags and thousand USD upvote bids. Eventually, an ecosystem like this evens itself out, really!
Have a great weekend Marly!
Those who'd have the power to change the situation are too busy with other things. If I downvoted a blog post with a current payout of $1,000 it'd be as if a fly shit on an elephant.
Have a great weekend, too! I'll be offline catching waves.
Great expression, with the shit and the elephant. Don’t worry too much about them, karma is always a bitch...
Go with the surf! 🤟
I love your way of thinking! :-)
Probably I'll use this quote on someone someday to look smart.
That's a great line @surfermarly!! lol
Catching waves is way more productive and soul satisfying than in-fighting and power struggles on Steemit.
Edit - I see others said the same thing - it's a great one liner anyhow :)
Ha! You all know what's best for me, and I really appreciate that :-)
Instead of shitting on elephants I really should catch some waves!
Thanks for stopping by @countrygirl! Have a great weekend!
Yep, this is the case for 99% of us. So what do we do? We go to the frikkin beach yeeee haaa! :D
Haha I couldn't agree more! Guess where I will be tomorrow :-)
I already know :) Have a great weekend!
Good to see you here @pele23 after meeting you on one of these posts Marly is referring to today.
I'm following :)
Right back at ya! See you later
Haha refreshing perspective from a veteran. Lets stick with that resolution and let extreme adventure be a better use of our brain power. Thanks for posting.
Haha, 355 days per year my brain power is used for more important things (like surfing) :-D
Nice comment, like your sense of humor!
If we want the perfect results, then voting bots should not be part of Steemit but if this happens, it will be putting a dent on Steemit revenue. I'm in favor of merit. Though not much strict merit because we should keep in view that Steemit is better than any other earning platform because it empowers even the average users who never made a single dime online, earn money. This uniqueness should stay in business. Those who are getting benefited wrongly from the system, should be stopped.
Thanks @surfermarly for being a true Steemian. I can understand how much value you give to this platform. I support you.
Steem On!
I fully agree on every single word! Especially this part:
Now there are two users trying to find out who's got the longest being paid for it by the community. That's definitely not contributive to the development of the platform.
Very true:
You did your job by bringing this important issue to limelight and I think you're the first one to do so. Leading from the front is not very common these day. Just shared this post with my followers.
Thanks for your support!
Steemians love posting good news. But problems are not solved by being ignored, and this is definitely going to be an issue in the long term.
Marly I was disturbed while reading those two blogs and then comments on it. I didn't experienced such type of quarrel in my entire tenure at steemit. I think steemit is running very systematically. Everything is happening properly. So the ROLE of bots is not hidden. Everyone knows and Number of people use this service so @ned should take a decision either this selling of votes should stop or not.
Thanks a lot @surfermarly for writing truth only for the betterment of this awesome community. Your words clearly tell us that how much value you give this platform.
By the way this is my 1st ever comment on your any of blogs. And I found another tremendous writer with very positive attitude. All the best!
You're completely right. We've got open books, there are no secrets. But the fact that abuse is practiced in public still doesn't legitimize it. It's as if I killed a person in public saying: Hey I didn't hide it, so I think it'll be alright.
@ned can't assume responsibility for the doings of this community. That's the idea of decentralization, this is a self-governed place. But if the most powerful in this community didn't have any interest in changing the system for better, then who could do it?
I shouldn't be the one to bring these things up. I'm just a surfer with a small stake of Steem.
Yes the most powerful in this community should take action and stop voilation. I am 100% agreed with your statement:
But the fact that abuse is practiced in public still doesn't legitimize it. It's as if I killed a person in public saying: Hey I didn't hide it, so I think it'll be alright.
Thanks for your time and Support. Keep it up @surfermarly
I knew, the day gonna come and Marly gonna start to quote herself :)Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
Hahaha! 😅😅😅 Oh man, you're the one that is able to turn any stressed situation into a joke, adding the appropriate portion of humor to it. Thanks for that! Until reading your comment I was in a bad mood, now that has changed :-) Gonna ride to the beach now!! Happy weekend for you, too!
I don't pay attention. I don't play the games. I just write and if people upvote me so be it.
You're just cooler than I am Randy :-)
Most of the time I try to handle it like that, too. But sometimes I just can't stand it anymore. This place could have become something REALLY outstanding.
Thanks for stopping by!
https://steemit.com/deutsch/@freiheit50/blindflug-mangels-steemvoter-und-dann-auch-noch-die-groko-sondierung
Ahh its unfortunate but where ever theres money and power, there will also be fear and greed - certainly the latter in this case.
Ideally bot use should not be neccarssary, and as some say it would be better if they were barred. The problem is there is some extremely good content that consistently goes unnoticed here - especially with numbers growing - and with the trending page based on payout it is sometimes the only way to get exposure!
Maybe we can look at adjusting ways to get on the trending page without having to use bots?? (i.e vote counts, page views??)
There have been hundreds of proposals in order to adjust these problems. They have been all successfully ignored. I'm tired of trying to improve something.
As long as the money is distributed among the rich, this platform will be nothing but a bad mirror of society. They tell us that this is the future, but actually they're just imitating the governmental structures they're pretending to run away from. Quite poor situation!
I'll be off surfing... need to forget about all this quickly! Nice weekend :-)
Yeah, the pissing contests are really bringing the vibe down. Just trying to do my part to put out solid content. If I worry about what the Steemit police are going to do, then I'll never put out what I need to and want to put out.
Enjoy the surf! I was up in the mountains yesterday, and the snow was awesome! :)
Oh nice, I'll be in the mountains in a couple of weeks, too! Really can't wait to feel the snow under my feet.
Thanks for your sharing your thoughts. I try to ignore but I can't. That's how this world has become: the evil can do whatever they want because we simply look away, as if nothing ever happened.
Steemit is exactly the same. Everybody's busy counting their money and nobody cares about anything but themselves.
I know what you mean. I think what I mean to say is that I came to Steemit to get away from the negativity on social media, naively assuming it wouldn't follow me here. Emotions are contagious, though, and so I'm constantly fighting the urge to give in and spread negative emotions. The best way to fight back, at least for me, is to continually work to put out positive vibes and work to get them to spread instead.
Do you ski or snowboard? I'm assuming since you surf that you snowboard as well? :)
It only means that they don't think their posts are that good to succeed without all those paid upvotes. I'm afraid these bots are going to ruin this platform and the valuable content will be left out. The worst thing is, there's no way to prevent it... Will see what the future holds...
also, I have to say that I am happy because some experienced, well-known Steemians are not only thinking for their asses, but actually trying to make a difference and help the community
Thank you for that! :)
What most people don't understand is that if this community doesn't work their own blogs won't work either. This is a long term project and we're all sitting in the same boat.
Still it seems that many users only care about their own benefits, upvoting themselves with delegated SP instead of supporting others, buying upvotes in order to push their own content into positions they'd never reached through organic growth and supporting a small circle of friends instead of reaching out for fresh content and new creative talents.
I've blog posted about the very same thing many months back. Nothing has happened since then, it got even worse!
Wow @surfermarly and thats you are a pioneer in steemit and I consider it big not as much as a whale but as a very graceful dolphin with greater reflectors now imagine all that a small fish suffers that is just beginning, its so complicated!
