5 Facts About Me!
Good morning from Australia Steemit!
I find it's quite hard to get to really know people on Steemit even though I might read many of your posts, I will only see the side of you that you share with Steem. Yes, there's always discord and chatting online but it's all through the screen.
So, I thought I'd participate in this "5 Facts about Me" challenge I saw floating around on Steemit to share some weird facts about myself that you might not have otherwise known.
1. I can't swim very well
I mentioned this one in my latest Travel Adventure post - I can't swim well. I'm pretty sure I could learn but I just have an irrational fear of deep water when I can't touch the ground with my feet. I always wear a life jacket in deep, open waters as I can barely tread water in a swimming pool, let alone staying afloat in open waters where I'd have to worry about waves, currents, rips and sharks. That's right, I have an irrational fear that a shark will come and bite me in open waters as well. I know I would be the first person that gets bitten and dragged underwater (just like in the movies) just because I can't swim 😆.
Don't laugh but I even bought my very own life jacket to take with me on our trip to Hawaii so I could swim and snorkel at the beaches and lagoons.

2. I'm 27 & have bad arthritis in my knees
Sad but true fact! It started a few years ago after Ben & I climbed Mt Fuji. The whole climb was quite tiring as I physically didn't prepare myself very well for the trek but it was the descent down the mountain that killed my knees. The way down Mt Fuji is an endless zig-zag path of very, very loose rocks. So we kept slipping and losing our footing and there was so much impact on our knees with each step. I don't regret doing the climb as watching the Sunrise from the peak of Mt Fuji was AMAZING - but I wish I had prepared myself better for the climb (walking sticks, knees straps, MORE WATER!)
I stand up all day for work so that doesn't help the situation and this year especially, my knees have been hurting quite badly. The worst part is I want to do more climbs and treks but only if my knees will allow me! I'm hoping to climb Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia next year and would love to trek to Macchu Picchu one day.

3. I love to eat food
This one is a well-known fact about me if you've been following me. I love any type of food that is DELICIOUS. Admittedly, I'm not the most adventurous eater as I'm too much of a wuss to eat bugs, worms, scorpions and things like balut. But, if I don't know what I'm eating and I try it and like it, I'll be fine. My mind is stronger than my stomach, unfortunately.
Delicious food can change my whole mood around. This is good for my husband as it's an easy way to flip my mood around if I'm grumpy. Also, bad news for him because if I miss out on the food I'm craving I can be a bit cranky. 😂
My stomach is grumbling while I'm writing this post. Could definitely go for a bowl of this Bun Bo Hue right now!
4. I really want to explore & travel the world but at the same time I want to start a family with Hubby & get another dog
My travel bucket list is long. Very long. Also, thanks to Steemit and all the travel blogs I keep coming across, this list just keeps on growing!
On the flip side, I really want to start a little family with Ben, and I also want another dog for us and to keep Nova company. Once we start having little minions, our ability to travel will be reduced until the kiddies grow up a bit at least. So we're planning to complete our EUROTRIP early 2019 before we settle down to start our little family.
5. I love sunsets!
Apart from the mosquitos, I absolutely love this time of the day. It's beautiful just sitting down and watching the sky change and transform from the afternoon blue sky to the blazing orange/pink/red hues before finally disappearing into blackness. Some of my most beautiful memories involve this beautiful time of the day. Sunrises are also amazing but I'm usually still in bed for those.

You climbed this?
It looks more like mountaineering than walking! Really is there a way you can walk up this without fear of death. Its more akin to Everest to the me!
The only time you can actually climb Mt Fuji is in the warmer Summer months in Japan when most of the snow has melted. There are actually a few walking trails that are used every single year by thousands of people during the peak climbing season. There are even "stations" along the way to the top so you can rest up, go to the bathroom and you can even pay a fee to sleep in some of the huts along the way that are open during peak season. I'll have to dig up my old photos are share them on Steemit. The way up is not so bad (apart from the altitude as you go higher). It's crazy but it's actually going down the mountain that was very hard for my husband and I.

You could write something by itself about your ascent and descent, would make for interesting reading :)
Great idea! I definitely will. Just need to dig through my old hard drive and find my photos
Oh man, that sucks. Did you identify the type of arthritis?
It's just bad osteoarthritis from destroying the cartilage in my knees from the descent. Just have to take more care next time I do a climb! haha.

You had quite the adventure climbing Mt. Fuji. The photo of the Mt.. Is fantastic. Thanks for sharing . 😊
It was definitely an adventure and a wonderful experience. Thank you for stopping by and commenting!
I just found your post through someone else who shared it.. I love sunsets also! That one you shared is a pretty good one. It's been too long since I've seen the ocean in person. I'm assuming that's the ocean anyways.. I suppose it could be a really big lake, lol. Cute puppy! And that's a bummer you have knee difficulties.. I know what that's like. No fun. Also I totally wanna do Macchu Picchu some day! It's on my list. Hopefully if steem continues to grow it will give me that opportunity quicker. ._. Cheers.
You are right! It's the Pacific Ocean east of Australia. Knee problems are a huge bummer but I find wearing a knee support takes away some of the pain. Macchu Picchu is high up on my travel bucket list so fingers crossed that Steemit and Crypto in general grow to give us an opportunity to travel there earlier! Best wishes to you & thank you for stopping by!
Getting to know people online can be tricky but there are ways and yours is one of them. Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself and good luck with all your wishes and plans.
It definitely can be tricky at times! Thank you for reading my fun facts and for stopping by!
I have family, no arthritis and love sun rises, other things are pretty much the same.
Lucky you to have no joint issues! It can be such a pain when standing and walking for extended periods of time. Thank you for stopping by and telling me a bit about yourself
G'day fellow teamaustralian I haven't stumbled across your posts before.
Love those little facts about people, one day I will take my wife and little one to Mt Fuji and if we can't do that maybe the lake St Claire hike in Tasmania
It is actually quite common for children to do the Mt Fuji Climb as well. We went just before the peak season but even then there were a few little ones (maybe 8-10 years old) that were doing the climb with us. They might just get a bit tired but if you rest along the way and are better prepared than we were, you'll be fine. Otherwise, Tasmania is definitely closer to home and another option.

Nice list. Good to “meet” you. I tried bun bo hue a couple of times in VN. I prefer good old pho.
You know I am always torn between good old pho and bun bo hue. I often crave spicy food and the spicy soup base of BBH hits the spot. I'll usually just make whoever is with me order pho so I can have a bit of both hahah.

swim very important for yourself, but the fact that the other interesting. Love to eat is the habit of women. Thanks for sharing with us
I know its important but I just have this phobia of deep waters. Then I panic, then everything goes downhill from there... So I always wear a life jacket in open waters!
