Veteran helps without knowing {fiction}
In the urban jungle he sits while other people walk past, not even flinching an eye or showing little to none emotion, there sits a man with wonder in his mind and adventure in his heart but with a past that has bruised him in ways that he could not show or speak of, these scars where not found on the outside but rather on the inside
People walk by, continuing their daily tasks without even knowing what this man has done for them, their country and their freedom. Little stuff makes a lot if you use it right. Winter, summer and autumn this man that was a veteran for his country sat on the street with little memories of war. Only the good came to mind when a little girl threw a $5 note in his jar
The past was not all bad but it was rather his own childhood that kept him alive and all is well with these thoughts until he got sent off to the army and never saw his wife again. A soldier that gave up because he lost the only thing that was important.
The man dies on the streets of New York. A peaceful death in his sleep the police officer who helped to clean up the things that he left behind had found a book which told this ex veterans’ story. The police officer took this book home and gave it to his daughter who was in fact the little girl who gave the old forgotten man on the streets the crisp $5 bill.
This little girl grew up reading the veterans war stories and at age 16 she started to compose a book. Then at the age 17 she finished this book and had it published. The first week had slow sales, as the weeks passed people actually started to buy her book called “A veterans past, is Americas future”
The book was one of the best seller and got two awards during that year. She made enough money to help her dad pay off the house and payed for her own college education.
But she never had forgotten that day when she selflessly invested in a man with a heart that still bled in the war.....
