A Tiny Spider That Can Shoot 25 Meters of Web!

in #nature7 years ago

This amazing spider is called Darwin’s bark Spider. It can create webs that are 28,000 square centimeters big and can be up to 25 meters long. It's silk is the toughest biological material known to science. Each strand is 10 times tougher than Kevlar.

The female starts its web crafting by balancing on a leaf and launching the silk towards vegetation on the other size.
The sprays strands of silk in one long continuous flow.  The Spider creates a web bridge by carefully controlling the outflow, the breeze does most of the work.

It is astonishing how such a small spider can produce so much silk, and so quickly!
