i wanted
to write a poem today
to uplift and encourage my fate
but i got sidetracked
twisted off balance
and fell prey
to a demon
who told me to procrastinate

i got nothing done
just wrote a story
washed some dishes
cooked and served a meal
read a book
spent some cash
when i visited a store
or two

my mind
spun
in different directions
refusing
to stay
in a single place
today
and i wished
and wished
but if a wish
was a kiss
then
we’d all be in love
so deeply
and sweetly
too good to be true
