The Tortoise Always Wins!
Slow and steady is not an exciting or sexy way to approach life, but it is a reliable one.
Aesop made famous the story of "The Tortoise and the Hare." The fast-paced Hare challenges the slow-paced Tortoise to a race. Not only does the Tortoise agree, but he promises to beat the Hare. Of course, no one believed that the Tortoise could win. No one except Tortoise, that is!
The talented, distracted Hare trusted in his strengths but underestimated his ability to stay focused on the task at hand.
The slow, determined Tortoise knew his weakness but was determined to press on and persevere.
Are You The Tortoise Or The Hare?
| The Hare | The Tortoise |
|---|---|
| reactive | proactive |
| fast and inconsistent | slow and steady |
| confident in one's strengths | understanding of one's weaknesses |
| distracted | determined |
| starts well | finishes well |
Both the Tortoise and the Hare brought strengths and weaknesses to the table. We need to remember that it was not the perceived strengths that won the race, but the unsee strengths that brought the final outcome.
There is a lot to say about persevering. How you face a difficult challenge says a lot about who you are and how the results will turn out. People who give up easily and aren't willing to follow through rarely finish. But those who take small, steady steps towards the finish line will always across it.
Final Thoughts
Don't be afraid to take the small steps. Smalls steps aren't always exciting, but they are always fruitful.
Small steps lead to great advances in ...
- your relationships
- your finances
- your dreams
- your career
- your side hustle
I can make you one guarantee. The Tortoise will always win. Just read the book!

I think you meant to say the Tortoise will always win and the characteristics of the Tortoise and the Hare are backwards? Unless, I'm confused?
I'm starting to question my childhood???
Nice catch! That was not intentional and I am glad that you let me know about the inconsistencies. I have edited the post so that it will not confuse others.

Small baby steps are key into one's development as nothing really changes over night. It's a gradual progression if things towards a set goal.
So true. As people, we are constantly changing (either for the good or the bad). We must start taking small steps to move in the right direction.
I'm glad nursery wasn't this detailed lol, but I do understand it was predominately created to teach exactly what you pretty much said.
It is amazing how a story from our childhood can mean so much to us as adults. If the lesson is good, it doesn't matter how old you are :)
