The Liberator II is able to print AR-15, or 1911. Dunno if it's a CNC machining device (which I believe is the case) or prints with metal. Regardless, I am working on a way to print metal (steel) anyway.

The truth is that there are better weapons than chemically propelled slugs today. The Second Amendment isn't about firearms, it's about personal arms, and the vastly improved technology burgeoning today is going to make firearms obsolete soon.

3D printing will factor in to that quite a bit, as well.

Thanks!

Yeah I am actually wondering about that. @styxhexenhammer has often talked about Americans not having access to actual assault rifles. But ultimately, this kind of technology will lead to weapons that are probably superior to military assault rifles. It would be completely meritocratic with no regulation at all and would undoubtedly lead to competition.

I am 99% sure this will result in some very badass guns...

One thing we might see is taxes placed on these 3d printed models. Consider every time you print something to be like a Bitcoin transaction where you have realised a gain and have to report every print to the IRS or something like that lol.

Ultimately though, it is a good thing. Between 3d printing and crypto we are basically going to watch as government power is restricted more and more.

This is fucking horrifying, if this tech does improve, what is going to regulate anyone and everyone being able to print deadly arms and kill anyone without any stops whatsoever? Do you really think 3D Printing being standardized and gun plans being easily retrievable is seriously a good idea?

Glad to see so many people finally weighing in on this, but it's nothing new. I've been involved with 3D printing since long before it became mainstream, and I can tell you that you can "print" a fully-functional 1911 or any other existing model using a laser-sintering machine. This is nothing new, laser-sintering machines have been around for years, they're just expensive. Now then, I have read numerous articles in industry news about "why laser-sintering machines will never become mainstream," mostly due to operation costs (lasers that can sinter metal need a lot of electricity), but that won't stop anyone. Besides, there are videos all over the internet of home shop machinists making improvised firearms using little more than a drill press. I have actual gunsmithing equipment in my shop, no license required! Granted, I'm not in business as a gunsmith, but that's not the point. If any government wants to stop people like me from making our own weapons, then the only effecitve way would be to chop off our hands, so that we can't program or operate machines. Or just kill us. Seriously, no government should ever be allowed to have the power to regulate citizens' use of tools, especially our own brains.
