Don Baker rents one side of a dilapidated apartment in San Francisco. And after a few days the new tenant Jill comes to the separate part which is permanently partitioned by the door. Jill is a very curious and fickle young woman who is accustomed to being quick-witted and quick-witted. And Don comes here with an agreement with his mother that he will be alone for two months to get out of his mother's shadow. The first acquaintance of the two is when Jill jokingly asks if she would invite herself to a coffee party at Don's apartment. Don agrees. The two begin to rediscover themselves when Jill notices Don throwing cigarette ashes on the table instead of ashtrays. Soon after, Don's mother appears as a catalyst who fears that Jill's whimsical behavior and way of life is a threat to Don's future.
The main obstacle in that small relationship is the presence of this loving mother between Jill and Don. Check out the movie to know the rest. I hear the name of an older movie than this, but I wonder why I haven't heard of it even once so far. I am sure you will finish watching this movie in one sitting and you will regret like me that it would have been better if the chemistry between these two had lasted a little longer. In some scenes in the home environment, Jill's short-sightedness can be a bit of a hassle.
Why don't you like romantic movies? I'm basically a fan of the thriller genre. Maybe because of the red screen, low visual effects, long literary dialogue, etc., I don't have the patience to watch a film of the "Agila" era at all. I tried to understand why this light style classic of 1982 was so good. What I understand is that not once in this movie did I feel like I was watching a movie 50 years ago. The city, the costume style or expression of the character, the video style, why the dialogue has adapted. I had no idea before watching this movie that 19-year-old Jill played Goldie (who is almost 5 years older than Edward Albert in real life) and Edward Albert played Don so smoothly realistic. You can't believe how dashing and stylish Edward was with his long hair which is a great fit even at this time.
And with this film, Goldie became one of my favorite actresses and the movie became one of my favorite movies as usual. Elin Hackart, who played Don's mother in the film, won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Needless to say, the film has received nominations in various categories at many film festivals. Overall rating is 6.2, but my personal rating is much higher.
It is a pity that in this movie Don sang two lines of the song "Butterflies are free" on acoustic guitar in his own voice which I did not find the chord progression online. A good high resolution poster of the movie is also not available online. However, a strange serenity comes to think that Goldie is still alive.
