Visiting the Ġgantija Temples on a very hot summer day!

in #life5 years ago

Hello everyone!

These last couple of days I've been out exploring some more parts of the island and I wanted to share my favorite photos from that with you.

First I went on a visit to an ancient temple called the Ggantija Temples. I've always been interested in ancient buildings like these and have always wanted to visit some of them like e.g the Egyptian pyramids. The reason I decided to go to these temples is because of one sentence my friend said "they are older than the pyramids of Egypt". This caught my interest and I wanted to go check it out.

We arrive there and it starts with a short video before you can go in and explore the museum and the actual temples. Ggantija which is pronounce like "gigantic" but with -ia in the end instead of -ic. This is because the early Maltese believed that giants had built these temples since they are so big that no man could have. It's from 3600 BC so it's a very long time ago and probably the oldest place I've ever been in so far.

Here are a few of the first photos I took inside the museum. They had a lot of cool stuff in there like tools, jewelry and of course some human skulls and things like that as well.

I liked that this sign said "Please touch" instead of the normal don't.

After walking around the inside for a while we decided to go outside to the temple and start exploring so here are a few of my favorite photos from there.

They have built supports like these pretty much around the whole temple to hold it together but you can see that it's pretty high.

Last one is from the outside. I can definitely understand where the giant theory came from looking at some of these stones. It's a pretty cool place and I will definitely go check out more similar places like this. These is a Hypogeum here aswell which is even older I believe and it's basically an underground cave where they can only allow 10 visitors per day.

I really recommend anyone to check this place out if you are in the area.

That's it for this post. Thanks for reading and have a great evening!

Peace, Straw

Man that's some crazy shit I didn't know. It does make sense though when you look at these temples and other buildings aswell.

Seems like a nice place to be .. did you touch it ??
