Artichoke is a large herbaceous plant with thick edible buds. It is a culinary delicacy. The fragrance of artichoke is thin, nutty, and small unrevealed buds are usually the most tender. The artichoke is served hot with sauce or as a cold salad or snack.
Artichoke plants have deep jagged, woolen leaves that grow up to one meter in length. Artichoke dies every year after the formation of flowers. New shoots arise in the next season for the production of rosettes of strong, branched flower stems with purple flower inflorescences. After four to eight years, the socket cluster becomes crowded, and the size and quality of the inflorescences decrease. Then the plant resumes by planting new outlets or root branches.
Artichoke is a useful enough plant, because it contains many different nutrients.
