Psychology of Jealousy

in #life7 years ago

It is human tendency that everyone gets jealous of a growing person. This phase comes when you think you have been doing everything good but not getting the results that you deserve. This is the most heart-breaking time. Not everyone comes through it. Sometimes you end up loosing your close ones also. So we should look upon the points that are obstructing our path towards success.

Why are we jealous of others ?

Competition

"Man is by nature competitive, combative, ambitious, jealous, envious, and vengeful"  Artur Keith

As per my point of view, being jealous of someone is good up to a certain extent as it keep you motivating and working hard but kinda competition should be healthy. You should not take it up to an extent that you stop considering other things in your life valuable. Maintain a healthy relationship with friends and foes.

Desire to be like others

"It is better to be an outspoken atheist than a hypocrite" George Harrison

In every walk of our life we see successful people around us and we are influenced by their Aura and we desire to be like them, attract other people like them. It is a good thing if we consider it in a positive way but the other way around we could also end up being hypocrite. And if this feeling gets in your way you start getting jealous of people around you. George Harrison has truly said that it is better to be outspoken atheist than a hypocrite.

Obsessive Thinking

“I must get my soul back from you; I am killing my flesh without it.” Sylvia Plath

Being obsessive about something sometimes makes you hollow with in. You just start running around something without having track of what are you leaving behind and even after so much effort you don't get what your are after, you start become jealous of others which will ultimately affect you very badly.

Now that we have seen what are the reasons that could make you jealous of somebody, we should look upon what we can do to make sure this doesn't affect our lives.

Here is my favorite quote by Robert A. Heinlein about Jealousy @storypics

"Jealousy is a disease, love is a healthy condition. The immature mind often mistakes one for the other, or assumes that the greater the love, the greater the jealousy - in fact, they are almost incompatible; one emotion hardly leaves room for the other."
