Open Source Game: OpenTTD Playthrough

in #gaming9 years ago (edited)

I fired up OpenTDD for some good old fashioned fun. I thought I'd show you the ins and outs.

Welcome to OpenTTD, the open source clone of Transport Tycoon Deluxe. The first thing you do is customize your company and pick a town. This company is named Steemit transport, the colour is light blue, and the president and CEO's name is Dr. D. Larimer, Ph.D.

I picked Polish town names and Plosh Złoty as currency. I think it's fun because, Steemit is international, why not pick a random country? I'm sure lots of Polish steemians can enjoy this game as well. Probably while eating slices of kielbasa and drinking a beer.

I picked Trzebina as the starting town. If you can't pronounce rz that's too bad, you should learn more Polish. It sounds like you're trying to make a sound of a propeller plane with your mouth. Anyways, it's the biggest city around and is a great base of operations. Many citizens will hop on the intercity bus now.

Building a bus station in Trzebina and one in Zaspa Górska allows me to connect the two towns. The ó in Górska is a long o, like in poo, by the way. The town name means something like - snowdrift mountain. The first passenger bus I've named the Steemit Express because of its high speed of 56 km/h.

A game of passenger bus lines? How boring. Guess what, this game has TRAINS! I bet you loved playing with them as a kid, well here's your chance to go crazy. I've noticed the local power plant and coal mine have no connection. Since it's 1934 and the only thing available is steam trains I figured that's just the ticket. The whistle of the STEEM bursting out of the train is a sure sign that it's arriving on schedule.

Now the citizens of Trzebina can rest knowing their stinky coal plant is running full blast. Hey, it's the dirty thirties right? This train provides a secondary income stream for Steemit Transport.

Instead of hiring accountants, you do all the math yourself. Check the operating profits and debt to see your fortunes. Things are looking very promising.

What's this, exciting new technology? I installed a mod that allows passenger trams. Now we can experience the future! Transportation using the power of electrons!

Streetcar.png

I had to lay down streetcar tracks and add a secondary streetcar garage, but it was all worth it. Now passengers can move between the two stations with ease, enjoying the streetcar's smooth and electric ride.

Woah, planes are available now! Stay tuned for the continuation playthrough. The year is 1939 and there's been a slow in business...

Feel free to post your ideas for expansion and development of Steemit transport. Airports? Boats? Bridges? Tunnels? It's all here. Let me know what you think.

Sort:

I was hoping a ghetto old school fan sim city.. but it looks nice. Thanks for sharing as always yo!

Transport Tycoon has the best soundtrack of any game. Followed you :)

You're damn right it does!

Hmm, I'm interested, looks like my kinda game. Any english?

The whole game is in English man! Just the town names and currency. you can customize them.

TTD and openTTD are awesome. Every couple of years I dust them off and lose an afternoon or two. I always found the challenge of the AI to be a bit uneven.

Your first playthroughs you tend to get out-played quite quickly, but once you have the ropes it's trivially hard.
