My Monero Experiment

Cpu mining with Two Intel 2.60GHz processors

For all you out there that are curious about CPU mining with your average computer, I have done it for you. Stop and see how I did before you actually spend the time and go through the motions.

The Thought

Yesterday I was sitting at my computer, and I had a thought. Why not try to mine for some coin. I realize that mining in this day and age is nearly useless, but why not try.

I started by looking for a coin that I could mine with my current setup. My setup is a poor mans computer, E machine. It has a chip set for graphics, and a 2.60GHz possessor, but other than burn it up , what did I have to loose.

After a small search on google, I found that I could still mine Moreno with my CPU. So I downloaded the miner and set it all up. But wait, the wife has an identical computer that she is not using, why not use both.

After loading a miner onto both computers, I entered a pool and started mining.

Of coarse, I new that I was not going to break the bank in my little endeavor, but it would be fun to try. At least, I could say that I tried.

The following is what I used, and the fruits of my now two day trial

1) Two emachines, running windows 7 at 2.60 GHz a piece

2) Claymore CryptoNote CPU Miner.v3.8.- POOL

3)Nanopool Monero

As you can see, its mining, but it is not very fast. The hash rate has gone down due to the fact that I have be using my computer to look at steemit. Other than that it not horrible. I am making money but I have made $0.02 in two day of mining. It is not very profitable at all.

The following is a screen shot of the miner on my computer. Both computers are running almost identical.

The processes is pumping out as much power as it can, being that they are crap computers. I could run the miner while in safe mode but, I really don't think that it would make much of a difference. The average hash rate for a 24 hour period is 16.0 h/s.

My Conclusion

Again this was just for fun. I was not really impressed with the numbers at all. To put it into perspective, The cash out minimum for nano pool is 1 Monero, according to the speed in which I am mining, it will take 29 years to be able to cash out my winnings. Not quite worth it.

I hope you enjoyed my epic failure, but you don't know until you try.

Sort:

Please don't say it was an epic failure, cause I tried the same 3 years ago with Bitcoin ASIC mining, bought one cheap 180 G/Hs miner and also like you tried my luck but without success, after 1 week of steady mining the power supply blew up and it didn't even covered the total cost of the hardware :(
