My Photography Journey : Kampung Baru (New Village)
'Kampung' in the Malay language means 'Village' and 'Baru' means 'New'
This is where the little parcel of how the traditional Malay Village looks like smacked right int he middle of the busy Metropolitan city Kuala Lumpur. This is street photography with mobile photography. The photos here are taken with ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom and edited using an android application called Snapseed.
One of the more exciting thing about photography is when you see two different and contrasting world in the same frame. It can be quite mind boggling.
The sky was clear and I could not resist the temptation of taking photos of the sky. This is how much Kuala Lumpur jas progressed from the days when it was merely a tin ore mining centre.
Generally we Malaysians are quite proud of our country and every opportunity to fly the flag 'Jalur Gemilang' we would. Jalur Gemilang in the Malay language means stripes of excellence.
The buildings are tall in the city because it is not cheap to own a property or find vacant land in the city. The going price for a square feet of property goes as high as USD1,500.
The community in Kampung Baru is predominantly Malays. They are one of the nicest people around and their hospitality and graciousness as a host is quite known in the southeast asia region. In the Malaysian community the common question to ask a guest is, 'Sudah makan?' it means, have you eaten? A guest that is well fed shows that the host has been doing a fine job.
In the town where jam is rampant, it is easily to travel around in a motorcycle just like how this resident is seen sending his wife who is a nurse in the nearby General Hospital to work.
The kids getting ready for school. It is always amusing to see how some kids who are slightly bigger than the bags they carry, manage to bring that load to school. Maybe that is why the kids tend to be smaller and smaller. They are weighed down by the knowledge they carry.
There are some small economy that the villagers here depend on with the rise in costs of living.
The flag is the flag of Kuala Lumpur. The man in the photo is not a local but a foreign national. They represent one part of the inhabitants of Kuala Lumpur as they are mostly involved in the construction section. Their role in building our city could not be discounted.
Finally the image of this innocent child tells us how our community will one day depend on them to continuously develop. This is what I like about taking photos of human subjects. Their face speaks volume of the culture, hardship and happiness that they lead.
This is me Steven Goh your friendly photographer, but this time not seated on the floor. I am finally standing TALL.
Hey @stevengoh ! Nice shot!
I stayed at KG baru for like 8 years and agree most of the points you throw there. Its a village at the center of urbanization. By the way, why no picture of food?
And you need to teach me how to take good picture man ^_~
I was on diet ma at that time. Patience lo when you wanna get d composition.
hehehe @cikxaijen , I am a vegetarian, normally when it comes to food, i am very boring person... hahahahaa! especially when i do street photography alone, you will see me eat all those green food.. LOL so when you free, we organize a street photography together, you eat the good food, while I can photograph you and the good food .. hehe Kg Baru is a small place with friendly people, i love to go there! :)
How beautiful that village,
When Aceh become like that?
This is not aceh. This is kuala lumpur. The reason we tag aceh is because we wish to engage your community in everything we do. Steemit is a platform that noone stand alone and since aceh is our close neighbour any form of support for each other is very much welcomed. We can start a new tag if you prefer maybe
#acehneighbours
Finally standing TALL!! (claps hands)
@stevengoh The photos look amazing, and I honestly cant differentiate them from those taken by a camera. Based on your experience, do you recommend amateur/casual photographers like myself to use smartphones to snap or invest in a proper camera for nice shots like these?
@aaromcheong , thanks so much , really thanks for the compliment. Nowadays i use a lot my Asus Zenfone 3 zoom for travel photography, as it is like and convenient. As for assignment or commercial shoot, i will still use DSLR . Mobile photography normally works well when it comes to Wide Angle, but you will find it is challenging when you want to zoom to shoot a candid shot during street photography. So there is advantage and disadvantage. Of cos DSLR is damn heavy...but now you can rely on mirrorless , lighter and smaller size.
I am from Malaysia as well but to be honest, I haven't been to Kampung Baru before even tho I have been studying at PJ for some time. Until the next time, I return to my homeland to pay a visit soon.
