Who are these followers?

I just hit post on my last blog post and within seconds these 40+ accounts start following me. This is not the first time this happened. I just can't get my head around why someone is going through the trouble to make these accounts to start following users. What purpose does it serve?

The users:

Scrolling through some of their posts, I see all the accounts are the same. The are all just posting YouTube videos about random things and they're really not making any money because it's quite obvious that it's plagiarized content. I can see that trying to make 40 accounts and posting hundreds of stolen videos might be a good strategy to make a few cents on steemit, but why are they following people?

By doing that, they only alert people to their activity, which could bring on the flags if it's reported.

Anyone else getting followed by these fake accounts?

Edit: A few more accounts to add to the list after submitting this post.

It's really a bizarre thing.

I feel ya man.
I just don't think the world will ever be an honest place.

From time to time I like to revisit the Al Bielek story and whisk myself away with splendid thoughts.

If you haven't heard of him, he claims he was involved with secret time travel for government experimentation.

I believe it :D

The section where he talks about that everything is free gives me chills.
As long as you didn't take the piss you could walk into a shop and take stuff for free.

I wouldn't imagine Lamborghinis etc, but basics for sure.
Check it out if ya have time.
A stunning listen :D
Cheers Stephen.

I wrote about this a week ago, and the endless new followers seemed to have dried up now.

I think they are already following me and there's a finate number of them. I still have no answers to what this is all about, or what the motive is.

Yep. I just got at least 100 or so in the last week. They all look like fake/spam accounts that show up right after you submit a post. On a good note, I went from about 900 to now over 1000 followers and got to do a post (part joke) about it!! About the only good thing the bots have done for me... lol

@speckonarock was mentioning this just the other day to me. He was below 100 followers and then boom within a half day he had collected 50 more followers. He didn't get it and was asking me about it. And I was like.... Welcome to steemit where the following doesn't quite matter its the supporters instead. You will find a large gap between following and supporters. You may only have 10 or so people that actually follow your blog out of 4000 followers... So treat your numbers with a grain of salt.

I just realized that I got a big boost from these accounts on 21st of May. Hmm weird. It seems like people are flagging now though... So they won't last long.

I’ve started reporting these lists to @steemcleaners and was happy to see most of them getting flagged. I don’t follow for follow, so the spammers get flagged for following me!

It happened the same to me, apparently it seems to be some bots that are monitoring the activity of the users. A followers spam..

I'd been wondering about this myself. I'd post something and seconds/minutes later I'd have about 15 new followers. Most of them wouldn't have profile pics, their voting power was non-existent and their content was similarly unoriginal. For the most part I ignore them but I've been curious about what they were really trying to achieve. Especially since I heard about the Dust Threshold for votes.

I am getting the same thing! I dont really see their angle. Must be some scam/spam idea.
