The problem with magic. steemCreated with Sketch.

Timmy was a boy magician.

He was pretty cool then, and so when my younger brother first came along, I took the time to ask him how he liked the idea, what kind of tricks were coming his way, and the list went on and on.

In retrospect, as I looked back, I realize that it would have been foolish of me to have done that. I was already at a point where my parents and grandparents knew enough about magic to know when I was ready. That I needed my own parents and grandparents to be aware of my true talent, in order for me to be able to find out their reactions and their concerns in time.

In this last year I've spent hundreds of hours doing just that. As a parent and as a writer, I think that sometimes we have to step out and say no to these things.

And if a young man or woman has to put their hands on someone to let them know that you're sorry, they're probably done with magic for good.

And they will be.

You may have had years to prepare for this, but a boy's imagination and a girl's will get the job done.

So what will I do? I'll ask them to stay out of it. That includes asking them to give me money.
