Let's talk Life: 會考對我人生的影響

見到你們在講高考/會考，也令我想講一講我會考的經歷和對我人生的影響。

I have been seeing posts from you guys talking about the high school exams and the type of subjects that you have taken, that makes me what to talk about my own experience on the public exam that I have taken and the affect it had/has in my life.

我是在香港長大的，在2003年，也正是SARS的時候考中學會考的。那時因為我媽媽是個護士，而她也自願的去在她工作的醫院幫助照顧SARS的病人，所以家中的飯食和清潔都是我做的（這並不是我會考考得不好的原因，而我也不覺得要給自己找個藉口）。老實講，我根本就不喜歡讀香港的書和科目，因為我覺得那些東西讀了也對我之後的沒有幫助⋯⋯

I was born and raised in Hong Kong for a good 16 years, and roughly on 2003, that's when the SARS incident, I was also preparing for the HKCEE exam at that time. In the meantime, I also had to cook for my whole family during that time, as my mom volunteered herself into the SARS wards to take care of the SARS patients. Regardless, I did bad in the HKCEE exam, not trying to find an excuse, just that I don't really like what I was studying anyways... somehow I just thought that all the things I was studying in high school had no help in my future whatsoever.

我媽媽是護士，所以我在小時候就對化學和生物學有興趣。但我中學三年級的時候，因為我的物理學成績非常差（最高的一次也只有50分），我就進不到我想選擇的理商科。到最後，只好讀文商科（文學+商業）。下面是我最後要讀的科目：

My mother was a nurse (still is), so at a really young age, I was already really interested in Chemistry and Biology. However, due to the really sucky results that I posted on physics when I was in 9th grade, picking the science and business focus for the next 2 years prepping for public exams was just impossible. After all, I ended up in the literature and business focus classes. Below were the subjects that I have taken:

英文 (English)
數學 (Math)
中國文學 (Chinese Literature)
地理 (Geography)
中國歷史 (Chinese History)
西方歷史 (Western History)
會計 (Accounting)

相不相信？我在會考時讀會計，最後我考也沒有考，因為那時我連 debits 和 credits 也分不清楚。我竟然在大學的時候我主修會計還有金融。現在當我回想，如果我當初數學比較好一點，或者是我可以在理商科，我今日的人生會有什麼不同？

Believe it or not though? Even weeks before taking the Accounting exam in the HKCEE, I wasn't even able to identify "debits" and "credits" - hard to believe, right? It was just extremely hard to imagine that I ended up majoring Accounting and Finance in college. From now and then I would wonder, WHAT IF I did better in Math back then, or WHAT IF I could study in the science & business focuses classes, how would my life be different now?

但是，我也在想，如果我早年做了那所謂「對」的決定，還會有今天的我嗎？
如果我當初做「對」了，我就不會被迫的來到美國繼續我的學業；
如果我沒有來到美國，我就不會在美國更加認識到我自己；
如果我沒有來到美國，我更不會認識 @tydebbie；
還有很多很多的「如果」和「我就不會⋯⋯」。

But then, I thought... What if I have made all the so-called "right" decisions back then, will I still be able to see the "me" today? I don't think so, or it is extremely hard to tell. One thing for certain is that I wouldn't be able to come over to the US to continue my education; I wouldn't be able to get to know myself a lot more; I wouldn't able to meet @tydebbie... there is just a lot of "what-if"s and "I wouldn't be able to..."s
