Disaster Averted In A Small Community

Hi Steemians, disaster was averted when an electric pole with high tension wires fell to the ground as rain was about to start falling. The people in the community were able to call the Electric power authority guys to rush to their community and put off the power supply from the nearby transformer.

This happened when school children were about closing from school and on the road that leads to other communities. We really thank God that people that were around cordoned the area and notified the authorities on time, if not for that, it would have been a disaster.

The pole in question was a wooden pole, this is in contrast to concrete poles that are supposed to be used, seconded, it was erected where the land was prone to flooding, so it showed a lot of signs of wetness on it. The people living there said it was erected when there were only few people living in the area and since the electric authorities didn’t want to connect light to the community because of the cost, they had to do it by themselves.

For me the important thing I am taking away from this is no life was lost. A lot of children take that route home, women usual go for school runs and bring back their children almost about the time it happened, This has made the community members to identify another wooden pole which doesn’t look very strong, they’ll be changing both of them the same time and I guess that is good news.
