The Vinyl Renaissance Has Begun. Part 2 of 2.

in #music5 years ago (edited)

This is the sequel to a post that I wrote earlier about the joy of listening to vinyl albums.

Music consumption now seems way too based on listening to a single song and not an entire album. The fact that you have to put the needle on the album and turn it over halfway through listening to it gives you greater listening pleasure. This is because it forces you to listen to the entire album and not just the hit single. Ironically in a very meta way music consumption has come full circle since in the 1950s and early 1960s music was bought mostly in 45s (singles) and not entire albums.

Another major benefit to vinyl is how great it is to tangibly have the album cover in your hands and admire the artwork and read the production credits. This also contributed to creating more sophisticated music fans because by reading the album cover you could consume more art and learn a thing or two in the process. I have hope that vinyl Renaissance has begun.

I’m sure that you noticed that I did not name any of the artists that I listen to. I assure you that my listening tastes are vast and eclectic. I will be talking about musical artists in many blog posts in the future.

How do you feel about a vinyl renaissance? If you don’t listen to vinyl very often you should give it a try. A new turntable can be bought relatively cheaply and searching for vinyl is such a wonderful experience because you never know what kind of gems you may come across. Great music will take you to wonderful places so just relax and enjoy the ride. (And be careful not to damage the needle.)

I wrote this two part post a while ago. After listening to an album last night I thought I’d share it on Steemit.

My grandmother had one of those giant, old-fashioned dresser sized vinyl sets in her attic. It was handed down and still worked. I remember playing a giant 78? called The Glory Song by The Hayden Quartet when I was a kid.

She had tons of old records up there from bands that no longer exist. I can still remember the crackling sound when they would start up...

That crackling sound always makes me smile. Somehow the crackling sound added something to the music. I’ve never heard of Hayden Quartet. I bet they sound kind of like Drake or Travis Scott. Just kidding.
