Taking the spotlight for the Detroit Tigers will be Daniel Norris. Norris, who was drafted back in 2011 in the second round, was called up to the majors three years after being drafted by the Blue Jays. After his short stint in the minors, he started as a relief pitcher for the Blue Jays.

In his rookie season, he played in only 5 games, pitching a total of 6.2 innings in those 5 games, giving up 5 hits, 4 runs, 5 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Many people wouldn't consider this a rookie season being he only played in 5 games, so now, let me tell you about his second year in the Majors, where he still played for the Blue Jays.

In 2015, once again, he pitched in only 5 games for the Blue Jays, but this time, he was a starting pitcher. He pitched a total of 23.1 innings, he was awarded one victory and handed one defeat, he gave up a whopping 23 hits, 10 earned runs, 12 walks, and 18 strikeouts. For a starting pitcher, those numbers are quite hideous. But, after playing in 5 games for the Blue Jays, he was traded over to Detroit and he played in 8 games for Detrot and he captured two victories and only one defeat through 36.2 innings while giving up 30 hits and 15 earned runs while throwing 27 K's.

Last season was Norris's best season as he was awarded 4 dubs and 2 L's. At the end of 14 games, he finished with the best career in his MLB time with a 3.38 and threw a career-high 71 K's. Now, this year, through 11 games, he is 2-4, he has gave up a season high, 68 hits and also another season high, 30 ER. Norris is currently riding a two game losing streak and will look to turn this around tonight against the Sox.

And, pitching for the Red Sox is the veteran, Drew Pomeranz. In a previous blog, I covered information about him, so there is no need to do that again. But, Pomeranz is currently riding a 3 game win streak that started back on May 25th against the Rangers, where he threw a season high, 11 K's. Following that performance was a 4-1 win over the White Sox, where he pitched 8 K's and only gave up one run, and in his last game, on June 6th at the Yankees stadium, he won 5-4, giving up 2 of the 4 runs and threw 7 strikeouts. He will look to win his fourth in a row tonight and continue this wicked hot streak.

Detroit Tigers

The good ole' Tigers will be coming into Sunday Night Baseball looking for revenge. Last night, they were defeated 11-3 in Boston in what was a flat out embarrassment. The embarrassment began from the third innings as their ace, Justin Verlander, gave up two runs, then in the 5th inning, he gave up another run, after those 3 runs, he was removed from the game, and the bullpen did even worse than Verlander.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the pitcher barely anyone has heard of in Warwick Saupold took the mound. And, there def is a reason nobody has heard of him. Through just one inning, he managed to give up 3 runs on a 2 RBI double and a RBI single. After that one inning, he was replaced by Leon, who did even worse than this other pitcher. Leon gave up 5 runs by way of a double, single, walk, and a sac-fly. Overall, this was just a flat out bad game for the Tigers pitchers.

Fortunately, this season, Detroit's batters are about 2x better than their pitchers. By no means are the best in the league in anything, hitting wise, nor are they the worse in the league in anything hitting wise. Between all the main hitting stats, they range from 6th in the league to 15th in the league, the best stat being in OBP% and the worst being in homeruns hit. And, on the individual side, they do not have any star players that stand out this season. The best player, J.D. Martinez, is hitting .297 with 10 HR's, the next best player after him is Victor Martinez, who is batting .274 with only 5 HR's.

Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox, 34-27, are trying their hardest to overtake the Yankees from the first place position as they are 3.5 games behind. If the Red Sox win tonight against the cold Detroit team, they will get the sweep. The Red Sox took the first game, 5-3, and obviously, they won the second game, 11-3.

The Red Sox will do everything they are capable of tonight, to get the sweep. And, that starts in their hitting. I'd expect them to kill the ball tonight being the fact that Norris is a below average pitcher and the Red Sox have above average bats. These red hot, Red Sox, are ranked 6th in the league in batting average, 4th in the league in OBP%, and 13th in the league in runs scored. These are some pretty decent stats for a team who face a lot of good American League pitchers.

On an individual note, this star-studded team, has only two players hitting over .300. These two players are Xander Bogaerts, batting .332 with 8 stolen bases and the catcher, Christian Vasquez, who is batting .320 with no stats that stick out, whatsoever. Like I said, the key to victory for the Red Sox are in their bats. If they can get the bat on the ball versus Norris, they should be able to come out of the game on top.
