Bhakti Yoga

in #philosophy9 years ago

Dear Steemers, I walked the path of Bhakti, practicing loving devotional service towards a personal God. In my case it was the God Krishna. My followers already know because I wrote about the Krishna devotees a few times, from different points of view.

Bhakti Yoga

Bhakti Yoga is basically giving up your desires by dovetailing them into service of God.

Bhagavad-gita (2.59),

Though the embodied soul may be restricted from sense enjoyment, the taste for sense objects remains. But ceasing such engagements by experiencing a higher taste, he is fixed in consciousness.

Examples:

Also by killing plants we get bad karma. By preparing the food with love and devotion and offer this food to a God, it becomes Bakti Yoga. No karmic reaction, Akarma.

The work you do also has a karmic reaction. By donating money to something good, (the church or temple) you will not get a karmic reaction.

You are supposed to live celibacy because sex ties you to this material world. Because the sex desire is strong, you could marry and then have sex to get children. Educate your children in God consciousness, by that you use sex in the service of God. Bhakti Yoga.

Karma

Somehow we have fallen from the spiritual world in this material world, and now everything what we do has consequences in this life, or the next. Because we live in a material world we are "stuck" in this situation called Maya.

Bhag. 3.1.4, purport by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada

Karma is regulated action for the enjoyment of the fruit by the performer, but karma-yoga is action performed by the devotee for the satisfaction of the Lord. Karma-yoga is based on bhakti, or pleasing the Lord, whereas karma is based on pleasing the senses of the performer himself.

And now...

Personally, I still believe in the concept of rebirth but no longer in bad Karma. Today I believe that every thought or feeling is enhanced by the law of attraction. Law of attraction says: that which is like unto itself is drawn And we do not die, we move back to the spiritual world where all is well.

Very interesting post. Does the "yoga" refer to the physical practice of yoga, with the physical and spiritual benefits of the practice devoted to the Lord? Or the spiritual branch of yoga? Answering myself....probably all branches of yoga?

Hi @onetree
There are different opinions about that.
I have learned that Bhakti is the highest and includes spiritual and physical.
Personally, I believe that if you feel good, everything goes without saying.
You are what you think.
Meditation greatly helps!

Very difficult to watch what you think! Meditation helps, yes.

I used to live this Vedic lifstyle but not anymore.
I write about it but I do not necessarily believe it all.

What do you not understand?

Just interested. I know I need a yoga practice. It is a mahor factor in keeping me sane. I've read a little deeper, but not much at all. For the moment I accept yoga as my moving meditation. Another lesson I try to practice is non-attachment. It has helped me immensely. I would say my knowledge is very sparse though!

I understand now
Meditation made my life so much more easy
I listen to the clock ticking durring meditation and so I stop thinking, by that I reset myself. That's what I do.
