My national flag adores the beauty and pride of my country Nigeria. During the work towards independence from Britain, in 1958 a competition was held to choose a flag from various designers. The competition was participated by over 3000 participant and Mr Micheal Taiwo Akinkumi a then student in London emerged winner and flag was hoisted first on the 1st of October 1960 to mark Nigeria's independence from the Britain. A red quarter sun was originally designed on the white part of the flag to represent some sort of devine protection on the country but was removed by the design committee because it represented some regions in the country and omitted some which deviates from the peace and unity message that the white color of flag preaches.

It is a vertical tri-band designed flag

Our national flag has two colours, green and white. Green signifying the abundance of agricultural presence in our country and white showing the peace that runs through the country despite being a country with so much ethnic diversity. The Nigerian flag was uniques drafted to show the greatness of our country among other countries. It symbolizes the pride every Nigerian have for their country.
On the world stage our national flag stands apart for it's unique colours and design as one the greatest black nation on earth. It's easily recognized even by foreigners who have become familiar with the colors of our nation because of the outstanding Nigerians who gracefully carry these colors with them when putting our country's name on the world stage.

I significantly believe that the colors that was chosen for our national flag helps every Nigerian to have a sense of dignity and pride in our country no matter where we go. We are constantly reminded that our country is blessed with agriculture making us one the richest country's in the world in agriculture. The flag is often placed in both public and private locations like schools, government buildings, security offices etc. Our armed force men proudly ardon the colours of the flag on their uniforms. Sportsmen and women representing Nigeria have their colors on their sport wears.

The white color reminds us to be peace loving and have zero tolerance for discrimination of people from other tribes. Nigeria being a country with so many diverse ethnicity and language speaking tribes we need a reminder to always love people from other tribe and promote the unity that have always bound us to this day. This makes Nigeria's national flag so important to every citizen, either at home or abroad.

The national flag is not an art work with nice colors but a powerful national symbol that strongly reminds us patriotic citizens and lovers of Nigeria that we have a role to play to keep all what is being symbolized on the flag. It reminds us to be peaceful and shun anything that does not interest the unity and progress of the nation. We Nigerians have to remind the future generation of our fathers struggle to a country we can call our own.

Nigeria should be great but it is plagued with bad governance. All these description is what should be when the nation is good and the citizens are happy but now everyday we are complaining. The flag is green and signifies agriculture but there is hunger in the land.

Dear @steemqueen,

The contest you organized to select the national flag of Nigeria seems to be really amazing. Because in that competition, about 3000 artists presented their art through the competition. But you selected the flag painted by Mr. Micheal Taiwo Akinkumi leaving behind all the competitors. which was formally lifted on 1 October 1960. And I salute the then government of your country because they changed the flag in the interest of maintaining peace and giving equal rights to all.

I wish you the best in this competition. Keep up the good work.

• Best Regards

In fact, it is a very surprising event that a competition has been organized to make the national flag of a country. We don't usually see such events. About 3000 thousand people participated in that competition. And out of that only one design was decided. The Nigerian government of the day decided a design considering all the people and all aspects. It is very good. The Nigerian government of the day deserves to be commended for the said work. Salute to his work.
Thank you very much for participating in such a contest with us.

Thank you💞

The flag is an achievement of honor and pride for every country. I first heard this information from you that there were 3000 contestants for the design of your country's flag. The green part of your country's flag has the same meaning as the green part of my country's flag. As Bangladesh is an agricultural country, this green area makes sense. White symbol of peace We all know you want peace in your country and show it with the white part of the flag. Good luck to you friend.
