The UP Machine Design Summit was an event sponsored by Steemit Philippines where we supported the bright young minds that will be the future of our country and had a talk and booth setup all about Steemit. We also had a meetup with a few steemians in the metro which made the event a fun gathering as an added bonus.
The summit was divided into 3 parts and ran from Feb 3 to Feb 5, 2018. The theme this year was the Olympics! Go for Gold kids!
Inter-High School Competition
High School students are challenged to create mechanisms that would benefit the community. A wonderful opportunity for young students to maximize the country's resources in building useful machines.
THE CHALLENGE: In this year’s theme, the competition calls for teams that can make machines for Cycling and Swimming. Upon the mark of the organizers, ready your tools to make the relay machines GO! Let the race begin!
First place: 10,000 Php
Second place: 7,000 Php
Third place: 5,000 Php
Stakes were high for Inter-High School design competition as their machines had to go through an obstacle course of water and a slippery race track. After the design phase, they headed on to the Engineering lawn to test out their machines on the obstacle course.
It was such a rush watching their machines run the course. Excitement was everywhere as they were screaming each time a team would finish an obstacle. Some of us caught the exhilaration before the fun was over because we also by this time, finished talking about Steemit to a theatre of students from all over Metro Manila and packed up our Steemit booth at the event.

As this year’s overall theme, the competition aims to replicate combat sports or Robo-Wrestling. Teams are tasked to build a robot mounted on a Remote-Controlled car where it will be pitted against other participants of the tournament.

Inter-Department Competition
An On-the-Spot machine design competition for UP Diliman students that showcases their creative skills as they work on a given set of materials and a limited time in constructing a machine related to a specific theme.
This event will test the participants’ resourcefulness and their knowledge of the projectile motion for they will be tasked to build a machine that should be able to launch spears that will reach certain distances.
Registration was free for this alias PROJECTI-LANCE competition where students were to build their own simple machines with the provided materials, its specifications, and desired functions.
This competition was open to all University of the Philippines Diliman students who could form a group of three (3) resourceful and persistent students!
Congratulations to the winners!
