Experiencing SETI@home
Hi everyone!
Five days ago I tried the SETI@home, and I have to say it: it was for the first time to have such a smooth start with a GPU project!
Few clicks away: one from BAM! account manager, and two clicks to configure the SETI@home applications for GPU-only operation, my Windows 10 laptop (having an integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 (3201MB) and OpenCL 2.0) and my Ubuntu workstation (having an dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 (1997MB) and OpenCL 1.2) where searching signs of extraterrestrial intelligence.
There are two applications available: AstroPulse v7 and SETI@home v8. The two applications are complementary. While SETI@home is searching for narrowband signals in the hope of finding sources of extraterrestrial intelligence, the AstroPulse listens for broader-band, short-time pulses, which may result also in identifying pulsars or black holes, in addition to ETs.
After the first five days, with a reduced up-time of my machines, I accumulated 5672 credit points, enough to position me at the half of the world ranking. Impressive, isn't it?
By the way, I just remembered that I have the best picture for this post, one which I took in March 2017, during my trip to the Nevada desert:
@SETI is not a Whitelisted Proyect, isn´t it?
SETI@home is on the whitelist. You can always check here the official status.
Thank you very much.
