Chain of Goodness Event: THE BEGINNING OF STEEMIT COMMUNITY PANTRY FOR THE LESS FORTUNATE

The best way to multiply blessings is to share with others.
I have seen this line before but I do not know who I am going to give credit, but I am thankful because this inspires me more to share every bit of blessing that me and my wife receives. Not only in this platform but in almost all aspects aspects in life.

I wasn't active a lot in writing because I am just so occupied with my wife giving birth soon this month and me doing a lot of things that needs to be done. But I have been active as always in supporting the community through power up a little bit, engaging with fellow steemians work by resteeming, upvoting, giving positive thoughts and of course reading and learning articles and write-ups from different point of views.

Today, the plan of helping more of our community is born with your help (steemit community) from the upvotes we got from last week. Me, my wife @georgie84, sister @sweetspicy and nephew @jufranketchup was able to start the plan that we have made from previous weeks.

We were planning to give back blessings to the people in need in our community through this community pantry once or twice a week. Though today is Wednesday, but we planned to do it every Tuesday and Friday because most of the head of the family who works in the construction firm, carpenter, street cleaners and other low paying job receives salary every Saturday afternoon. In this way, in the middle of the week, we can help them at least two to three meals per chance.

But this will not be all possible without your support. Our next step when my wife and I recovers after delivery of our baby, we will extend outside our neighborhood knowing there's a lot of them needs us. So the plan is that, we will put up the steemit community pantry at least twice a week (hoping we can get cheaper and good quality vegetables on Thursday) so we can push through the plan.

The Process

Before heading to Mama's place for the activity, me and my wife stopped by the grocery store to buy the necessary supply for the community pantry.

And then we started packing, organizing, and planning again on how to do it since it's different from our previous charity event. So we made up a good plan by making it exciting and fun. We made menus with specific ingredients. Wrote it in a small piece of paper, roll it and they picked what they have to get for dinner. It was very exciting not just for me but for everyone because it's like a surprise and most of them got different food for a meal. We made a consideration for a family with lots of kids by giving them extra eggs and sardines.

It is always good to have a family who loves to do this kind of activity and are happy serving people in the community. We always have Mama, Uncle Ruben, and sister Rose helping us through the process. We packed individually the cooking oil, salt, and sugar for a good amount in cooking the ingredients they get.

As we promised, we were able to purchased one sack of rice (50 kilos) but some of the recipients today was kind and honest enough to say that they still have good amount of rice at home and just prefer it to be given to the most in need. That was really touching because community pantry is intended for what you need only for a certain meal so everyone would be serve. We send some of the rice house to house and others took one kilo each. We still have extra kilos of rice and few dry goods and spices for the next schedule. But we still need to add more since a lot of new faces came today.

We were able to serve 29 families today and we asked them to write their names so we could keep record as to how much family we could help per activity. And that way, those who have not informed yet will be notify and so they can also come when they need food on that day. Our family agree that when someone will knock on the door for some food even if not pantry time, is we will give because that's the true essence why we are doing this.

These are the people came today for the pantry, some of them are new. They worked in a monthly salary at the barangay hall close to Mama's house. Everyone is welcome and nobody has been denied. We instructed the people to wear face mask and social distancing, but sometimes its hard to instruct adults in that safety protocols, haha!

My wife @georgie84 was able to distribute pamphlets to those who use android phones and willing to learn steemit with her. Sad to say that only few people visited us has an android phone. Still good that she made a try and encourage them to join us.

Thank you for supporting me all the time. I will keep you all posted on how would the Steemit Community Pantry would go. Hopefully we can get good and cheaper vegetables tomorrow so we can have another pantry on Friday. It just feels good to serve these people with your help.
