Prison with Panopticon System
This prison is designed by philosopher Jeremy Bentham in 1785. The main idea behind it was simple a circle formed with one room cell's and in the middle of them a watchtower to monitor everything. They wanted to test the behavioral change in the prisoners using the watchtower as an always watching authority figure , however project never became alive.
This building as formed shaped as an octagon , the watchtower can able to see everything however the prisoners can't see anything because of the dark windows on the watch tower. As I mentioned before creating an authority figure is important , therefore prisoners will always think they are getting monitored and they won't have courage to do funky stuff.
Micheal Foucault thinks that Panopticon idea is the ancestor of concept of power in modern world. Like in Orwells book eventhough people don't get watched , they will create some kind of auto control mechacnism to correct themselves in order to deal with central power
Because of the nature of Panopticon it can be run by anyone and the number increase in people regulating will increase the paranoia of the prisoners and they will be always on guard. Therefore you don't need to use any force to make an inmate act proper , an agressive person calm , to make a worker work.
