The Essence of Indian Womenhood - Colorful Bangles

in #marketfriday5 years ago

One of the ancient ornaments that has been passed on from a genre to another and which adourns the arms of an Indian women are Bangles. An important jewellery item for Indian culture and found on every women's wrist and that too in different colours, design, shapes and models. Although the tradition started years long ago, however even today women and girls of different age group love to wear these bangles to enhance their femnine grace and beauty.

Bangles are generally circular in shape and unlike bracelets not flexible. Bangles are made up of different materials which may be precious and non precious like, glass , good, silver , wood, lac etc. The word bangles derived from Hindi word "Bangri" which means the ornaments that adourns the arms.

It is an age old tradition and custom in India to wear Bangles.

Be it any occassion, Indian women always shops for Bangles. It is considered auspicious to wear Bangles. In many communities within India women do not like to wear golden bangles alone, they always combine them with glass bangles. It is considered to bring good health for her family. Many communities believe that keeping empty wrist bring bad luck.

Each of the bangle colour have their own significance.

Red signifies energy and prosperity, while Green denotes good luck and fertility. Yellow Bangles are meant for happiness, White is for new beginnings and Orange is for success.

There is scientific reason as well for wearing the bangles. Bangles helps in Controlling the Blood Pressure amon women. In olden days, Men use to go out to work in farm or forest whereas women remain at home. They use to do less physical work as compared to Men. Less physical work results in increasing the blood circulation which may cause impatience.

Normally the wrist portion is in constant activation on any human. Also the pulse beat in this portion is mostly checked for all sorts of ailments. The Bangles used by women are normally in the wrist part of ones hand and its constant friction increases the blood circulation level. Further more the electricity passing out through outer skin is again reverted to one’s own body because of the ring shaped bangles, which has no ends to pass the energy outside but to send it back to the body.

These are available in different rates and sizes. Inexpensive bangles made up of plastic are slowly getting replaced by glass materials, which can be wore at any festival or function. Recently while attending a function at my sister, I went for shopping only able to capture all variety of Bangles in store.

There were variety of them, at all sizes and colour. Each of them giving a delight to watch. All of them were packed in paper boxes, whereas many were put on display in plastic boxes, adding beauty to the Bangles.

The only factor that adds to the price of the bangles is the artifacts or the work done further on the Bangles. The heavier the work the more the prices. The work on Bangles includes embroidery or small glass pieces or paintings or pearl work or even small hangings that are attached to the bangles. The rareness of a color and its unique value also increase the value.

Red Colour Bangles are always be considered auspicious for a newly wed bride. So in India, if we ever attend the marriage, do not get surprise with Red Bangles well decorated on Red Heena hand of the Bride.

Thank you! This is such a wonderful post, delving into the world of bangles. I can honestly say that I knew nothing about the colors or even that there was a reason behind their adornment, other than beauty.

I have always admired them, but, love that there is a specific meaning behind each color. I did know about henna and the red color for the bride, but your wonderful post has brought me up to speed on all of them.

Thank you for spreading the knowledge and culture of India, it is through small pieces of understanding one another that we make this earth a kinder, gentler place to live.

Please leave the link to your post here so it can easily be found by others. They will all be in one place!! Thank you! ❤

Thanks @dswigle glad I successfully able to present a colourful perspective of incredible India. Trust me. Indians are very specific about colours and many people wear cloth as per days..like yellow on Thursday, Black on Saturday, Orange on Tuesday, Green on Monday....and so on. They believe in astrology and that allows them to believe in colour magic.

I really enjoyed appreciating the significance of the colours again - and also the idea of friction over the delicate wrist points. It was nice to think of it as something beyond only decorative. They are gorgeous. But surely the essence of an Indian woman is her beautiful heart, closely followed by her mesmerizing eyes?? ;) Nice post.
