Does SMS Spoil English Writing ???
English is the third most spoken language across the world, after Chinese and Spanish. English has been the quite common language around the world apart from United Kingdom. It has been taught in different accent. Many people have adapted around the world themselves to speak and write English.
No doubt English helps in bringing peoples closure from different part of the world. Even in India, people prefer to speak in English rather than Hindi
Writing English is also an easy task, with 26 alphabets, any words and sentences can be prepared. It is through English only that many business association have expanded their wings in different market.
When nothing could be understood, then English gets into the mainstream way of doing business. Even our own Steemit platform is focussed on English languages.
The Entry of SMS
In the long history of English, the language has given us many important innovations. One of them is SMS. “Short Message Service - SMS” we all are aware of this revolution that made sending text messages through our mobile phone quite easy.
The sms services first started in early stage of telecom revolution, where you can send message, apart making calls from the phone.
Although, there is limitation, where we can type very limited character for the messages. “The need is the mother of all innovation”, with limited character limited in SMS’s, people started to write the messages in short way. Like instead of writing complete, people started to frame small words which sounds similar with the usage of Alphabets and Numbers. For Example
We = V
GET = G8
You = U
Tomorrow = 2moro
O My God = OMG
SMS is the way of messaging by using alphabets and numeric numbers. Our smart society had made the best usage of SMS by innovating short way texting.
The Impact of SMS
The way people have adapted themselves for the texting, many of us has forgotten to write English in right way. By right way I mean writing complete words sentences instead of shortcuts.
It happens quite a times that during official email or writing blogs, many authors or people use the short words, as mentioned above. This is being one of the serious concern that we should take into consideration while writing.
Avoid SMS way writing
Professionalism does not allow to write any email, any article using shortcuts. Business thinker always make sure to write complete words instead of short words. It is very bad to mitigate Short message in your writing.
Also, whatever we are doing on internet, either blogging, or writing article, or even using Steemit, we should always avoid using the shortcuts. These are the footprints that our future generation will follow. Any work on the internet, will remain there as a legacy for the future generation. These are our work which can be seen in future, and we make sure not to leave any bad impression.
It happens quite a times that while writing, these shortcuts automatically get typed, as we are used it a lot. We should avoid the shortcuts usage while writing blogs on Steemit or any other platform, as these will give a bad impression. On internet, we have the privileges to have enough enough space and no boundary on the word limit. We should frame proper word and make our sentences beautiful.
The Pledge
This is the learning that I learned many years back during one of the email communication training, however, casually it happens that I started to use quite often, but the mistake need to be corrected and today onwards, I will make sure not to repeat the mistakes while writing any blogs or article, anywhere.
I would sincerely like to thank @geetharao for correcting my mistake. It is very rare happen that anyone can pinpoint on your mistake, but whosoever does that, then make sure to obliged by correcting yourself, as they are the real well-wisher.
@geetharao Thank you!! 😊

I've even seen the casual sms-like speak starting to creep into the business world in "professional" emails
@nievogro thats true this is actually wrong we should not make it regular in daily or professional content
OMG!!! dis post is 2 l8
Just kidding
Interesting views you have on the language. What i believe is that no language can stay that way. With us language evolves. Like you pointed out that English itself has evolved into many different forms. And these region specific English will go om becoming a formal one in their areas.
The hard truth is nothing last forever. The language will vanish and can only be find in books of that era..
PS - I too get annoyed when someone replies with hmmm or k. Instead of OK. Is O is bit far on you touch screen? I hate WhatsApp bro...
@inuke i belive, the shortcut should be used only till the chatting.....but while you are drafting any offician stuff and writing any blog on the internet...please avoid any SMS kind of messages
Good morning, i agree but see this is something we can't control. Infact we probably can never if you see the language in which the letters and autobiography was written by our forefathers you will see the difference. New words are invented daily. :-)
And I am sure the language the 4-5 generation after will differ too.
