Abundant Family Values and Ethics - Can Never Be Woeful.

Abundance Woes: What have you had too much abundance of, and how did you deal with it?
What would have been the likely outcome if you had not dealt with it both short and long term?"
Another week and another thoughtful question by @ecotrain.

Frankly it took me a great dive to find the abundant thing I had in my life. Be it personal or be it general. While looking for something, a lesson of my dad came into my mind.

"Too much of anything is bad". This is one of the few lesson that I learnt from my Dad. And this is what he got from his dad. So it's is kind of legacy that keeps passing on from one generation to another. The best part of growing up in Indian middle class family, you hardly get anything in abundance except the Values & Ethics. In a Middle Class society , there is always some kind of red-neck i.e jugad available to take on something.

The most important lesson one can take out from Indian Middle class is to how to stay happy in a limited resource. Indian Middle class family, keep all the alternative open, to make the best out of everything. Be it using an old cloth for duster, to making an old cup as pen stand. They keep many old rejected items at home, hoping to be used in near future. Few noticeable facts / trends about Indian Middle Class:

  • There are many things that the middle class family does , keeping future in mind. Like, when there is shopping made, the family always try to keep thing economical, and purchase a size plus in view that it works a little longer, when the such cloth are not fit to the elder one, it will passes to the youngest one.
  • A great mascot of energy conservation . Who keep's the lights on or fan??. There is always someone to keep a check on these things. Saving electricity bills is there motto, though by doing this they are helping the environment too by saving energy.
  • Optimum utilisation of resources, Be it rolling over the toothpaste to squeeze the paste, or mixing the water into shampoo bottle to use it for one last chance or be it putting the large plastic cold drink bottle into fridge to store water. The middle class make effort to use all the product and avoid any wastages.

Growing up in such family with guidance and teaching of basic living, we always find abundance of happiness all around. And alongwith abundant Respect & Love. Respect the Elders & Love the Younger Thanks to the lessons that our parents keep teaching us that helps our family knitted togethers. There are abundance of such lessons and teaching that keep passing on from genre to genre and help us living happily and maintains a happy balance life and understanding.

The lessons of living a simple life has always been a priority. Today @ecotrain question gave me a chance to look into a possible outcome, if we have not dealt with properly with the family teachings.
A Family Disintegration the moment anyone of our family member sway away of the lessons and move out to search for more I believe the cohesive unit that we have , will surely get disturbed. Who don't wants more.?? But what the use of having more?? Living as per the basic need is enough to lead a happy life. The search for more may cause mental disturbance and ending all family value and social life.

Thanks to our parents who keep us together with all lessons and happiness. And passing on the abundant Values and Ethics from generation to generation.

@eco-alex not sure if I messed up with the question, but it is something I noticed while peep into my past. Hope it allign with the question of the week.

Note: Few references of middle class from my own post

beautiful answer, no you didnt mess up. you said it, and what you did with an abundance you had.. your family had too much love, so you shared it with each other with respect. Due to that you have great character, and a good strong family unit. .these are two things that would surely perish in a family with no love or respect for each other.

love it!

That's true , love and respect are always the strong pillar that completes a family. What I had I shared...thanks God it complies with the question

I would say you were very fortunate to have learned those lessons! We find our own happiness, it cannot be bought! 🙌

That's true @thekittygirl I remember we never led a luxurious life still with the basic things we were always happy among us....just love and respect

A very good thought about what is in abundance. Let's not underestimate values. Those examples are very familiar, the reduce, reuse, recycle principles should be adopted by all classes. Because it's also about the world, not only ego.

Thanks @manoldonchev we can use of the resources till it last why to waste them and why to have them in abundance ...till we do not have more requirement

I love these perspectives @steemflow. I had some similar views in my QOTW post as well. There is so much in life that we do not need. When we are more mindful and appreciative, life becomes so much more rewarding. When you really do think about it; safety, food and water, and perhaps good companionship is really all we need. Yet today's society teaches us that we need to aspire to obtain more. I'd much rather aspire after life experiences than materialistic items. I can tell you feel the same way. Thank you for sharing.

Infact it's true...todays society and the greed is what spoiling current generation. They are in race to have more and more and in pursuit forget about happiness...and the minimum requirement they do have. They can fulfill it with once still they want to have more

Your gentle reflections on the Indian middle class values made me smile, as they so much reflect my own post-war-immigrant-family values. And you are RIGHT - the abundance of values can never be woeful. The ONLY thing I want to add is that we all need to TEST and CLAIM those values to be sure they are fully our own, and not just learned behaviours and us blindly living someone else's values. A valuable (haha - pun intended) contribution to the challenge, @steemflow. Nice job.

Excellent response to the question. A huge downside to more is that you need even more to keep it, clean it, store it, sort through it. ick. I'm on a downsizing craze. The hardest things to get rid of, though, are those that carry some kind of emotional significance. Like the ugly coffee cup my best friend gave me 20 years ago ;-)

"Too much of anything is bad" unless love for sure. An abundance of love, ethics and responsibility to our earth, especially within a family, but in a way the whole world is family, so it is applicable to everyone of us.

Thank you for a thought-provoking piece.

Thanks you so much @hopehuggs for the valuable insight. Indeed the world is family and need of the moment is to spread love and respect for all
