Situated in Rike Park, Rike concert hall is surely among the most dramatic architecture found in Tbilisi. Like something out of a science fiction film, it can be seen from many locations around the city.

The concert hall was completed in 2012, part of an ambitious government program to change the face of Tbilisi and reflect a more modern outlook for the country of Georgia.

The previous ruling party in Georgia, United National Movement, went on a building spree in the capital which included a new Presidential Palace overlooking the city.

This is now a subject of some controversy in domestic politics after the United National Movement was voted out of office in 2012 and replaced with Georgian Dream, who still govern the country to this day.

Unfortunately, the concert hall that cost about 25 million USD has never been used for its original purpose and only the exterior was ever fully completed. Inside the building remains little more than a shell.

The government at first tried to encourage investment in the project from the business community by selling the lease for a symbolic fee if it could be used for its original purpose as a venue to showcase the arts.

But due to lack of interest, the Georgian government are now trying to privatize the building fully as part of a sale of state-owned assets called “100 investment projects for business”

Even if it remains to be seen if the Concert Hall can one day live up to its original purpose. it is still a popular landmark of Tbilisi, you can often see tourists and other sightseers in Rike Park walking the concert hall grounds, taking photos and admiring its unique architectural design.
