Guitar Show 2018

@steevc and I took our annual trip to The Guitar Show 2018 in Birmingham yesterday. You can read Steve's post about the trip here. It was jolly nice to catch up with Steve once again.

The show has grown year on year and this year seemed to be a real step up in terms of size. The lobby was taken over by some stands covering synths and recording gear, the curry stall was relocated and replaced by more stands. The curry stall was in a side room which meant...well more room for curry - this was fine by me as the curry is one of the highlights of the day! It's delicious.

The PRS stand was packed with dreamy delights as it has been in previous years. PRS was a brand I'd never really understood until I saw the instruments in the flesh. Until that point they were just ridiculously priced guitars but up close they really are works of art. The build quality and attention to detail are insane.

A highlight for me (other than the curry) were the GNG guitars. These instruments are Swiss made by Giulio Negrini and are simply beautiful. The images below are of the Morgoth.

Next on my list were the British Made H J Guitars. The first thing that caught my eye was how amazing the figuring was on this neck.

I also loved the contrast of the green top and the lightness of the natural body. Money no object, I think this would have been the guitar I'd have left the show with.

What I love about the show is the variation of what you see. @Steevc played a guitar made from purely from metal which included a scalloped neck, but not only scalloped, the fretboard edge followed the same pattern as the fretboard surface.

Some models were a mixture of metal and drift wood.

All in all it was a great day out and I very much hope we get to make it again next year.
