Search for validation
Myspace, Hi5, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, interest, YouTube, Steemit, Snapchat, 9GAG, and many other social apps and social media sites that fill our days. And for what? The answer is for validation, for social validation.
We humans always strived for validation. I think it’s a survival thing. If the tribe doesn’t see your value, don’t validate your existence, you die. This is why we work to get the validations of the people around us. And others do the same. We are not alone. We all do the same.
This quest for validation is not wrong. This is the basis of human interactions. To interact with humans you need to work, you need to show the good, and bad, in you and the people around you will validate your existence. This is how we get friends and spouses and we make memories and so on.
But, in our lovely day and age, sometimes we cross at the fine line between normal and craziness. Our quest for validation goes rogue. And instead of looking for genuine interactions we look only for that Like, love, tweet, vote, etc. And we would do almost anything to get those sweet signs of validation, that are just some empty pictures, rows of ones and zeros. But in our heads that is a sign of validation from the community. This is why we go to great lengths to get them.
This leads us to creating fake personalities and creating fake relationships. And I think this will be the bane of us as humans. We will become shallow people, interest only on that like and that reaction that we could obtain, instead of creating something of value for our tribe.
I think that the social media platforms are great, they are a great tool, but it shouldn’t become a means to our existence. We shouldn’t live for them. They should be just another tool in our life that we use to have fun. We shouldn’t revolve our lives around them.
