Onboard rally video of the day - Carlos Sainz sr on legendary Safari Rally 1997

WRC cars were introduced to sport in 1997 and it was kinda revolution back in the days because this class is actual even today 21 years later. First who introduced WRC car was Subaru with Prodrive as a tuner and legendary Colin McRae behind a wheel.

Those days were full of rally stars behind a wheel so the sport were really interesting to the public. I knew everything about that sport even then. I was kinda fanatic for a rallying.

In that days Safari Rally had special stages longer then 100km so we can see from the video that Sainz sr is entering into time control of the stage longer then 155km. Now just think about driving on gravel and open roads for public for 155km without stopping (you stop only if you have to check in time control or you brake something). You had to be very good prepared in every meaning of the word prepared.

In this video we can see that animal is running and kicking into the back of the car and destroying car's suspension.

It's so interesting to see H gearbox which are now impossible to see on top of the sport because only sequential gearboxes are used this days in WRC.

Carlos drove for Ford works team in 1997 which just started the collaboration with M-Sport. They stopped with their own program from Boreham and let M-Sport to do the whole business from their workshop.
