Croatia Rally - day 2
Hi, Steemers!
Croatia Rally is the biggest motorsport event in our country. For 15 years it was run in May or June but now it's in September. Also location has changed. Croatia Rally known also as a Ina Delta Rally was previously organized by my home club AK Ina Delta, and it's organized by our FIA motorsport federation known as HAKS and small club from Poreč called AD Racing. But main character behind whole event is Daniel Šaškin (also rally driver, boyfriend of ex-skier Nika Fleiss). He is the one that pushes our event to the WRC calendar.
We all know for another ex-skier Janica Kostelić who's now advisor in our Ministry of sports. Because Kostelić and Fleiss are friends, she organized meeting of Oliver Ciesla (main WRC man) and our prime minister Plenković and that's why we were so close to the WRC slot of 2018. Now we can only hope there will be empty slot in 2019 calendar.
Back to the rally. Istrian roads are very sleepy and there're lots of crashes/DNFs every year.
This year 19 crews out of 64 starters retired because of crashes or technical problems.
Hungarian David Botka is a former European Champ in ERC2 class (group N category; cars like Mitsubishi Evo or Subaru Impreza). This year he came with the new car - Škoda Fabia R5, very powerful machine. And he won, not by big margine but it was nice lead through whole rally that finished with 22 seconds in front of 2nd Andras Hadik (Ford Fiesta R5). 3rd was Slovenian Rok Turk with more then minute of the leader Botka.
More of the thought about this year's biggest Croatian motorsport event in next posts...
