Bugging Out Food Choices - Steemit Embedded Video
Bugging out is not camping or long distance hiking. You will be constantly on the move, careful to avoid as many people as possible, until you reach your destination. There will be a lot of running, ducking, hiding, lack of sleep and just trying to remain unnoticed in general. Your pack feels heavier by the hour.
Cooking will not be an option most of the time because a fire will give you away. Dakota holes take time and you are on the run. Food odor will lead hungry people and animals right to you even if you’re not cooking. A packet of tuna for example. Light weight but what an odor, right? I see many people online talking about this as a great item to pack along with dried instant meals. What about the smelly package? Trash should be buried as to not reveal your activity. Someone will come along behind you and track you because you clearly have supplies. No time to stop and bury trash on the run.
I like ziplock bags. I can use them later in a variety of ways and my staple bugging food is oatmeal. Very lightweight, no odor, and I can soak some in a container in my pocket or pack and eat it on the go. No cooking needed and no odor cold. It will get me by as I snack from the wild until I get to where I’m going. I have other light weight low odor items as well but I can haul A LOT of oatmeal without getting too weighed down. This way I will have food left as I get my new home established.
Remember……weight and odor when you choose your bugging out food. You have a better chance of reaching your destination. Thanks for watching!

I think there are many people out there who need to re-evaluate their situation and gear they carry....
There are a lot of variables out there = Skillsets, fitness levels etc.
Practice and evaluation of a particular bug-out system will be the overriding factor in determining how much to carry in relation to your skills and fitness....
I have found that food odour and cooking methods to be a balance between life necessity and threat levels. This can only be evaluated by regular route recce and intell collection, but still... at the end of the day, it only takes one bad person on the route to ruin it all.... So yeah, when on foot, stealth has to be the answer.
Good Thoughts!
Thanks and great comment! I like your thoughts added to my videos for people to read.
howdy today @squirrelbait! very good video and like you I think that @preppervetuk's comments go great with it, good job!
I've never really thought about the strong smell aspects of food supplies.
I'm glad you found it valuable. I noticed the stealth aspect of food is not a topic of conversation. My main survival strategy in a bug out situation is stealth and wit. So, I always have that in the front of my mind when I run scenarios, plan, and prep. What's your main survival focus?
tag along behind you!
I don't know. I can get some stuff together but then I'd still need to find some wit somehow. so I don't know how that would work.
since we're out in the country it would be "something in place" what do they call that? shelter in place?
Yup. Shelter In Place or it's worded Bug In. I figured given your location. Water would be your big focus in prepping I bet. Do you have a rain collection system or a plan for one if needed?
well we have two ponds, one is just 150 ft from the front yard so we gotlots of water, just need to get a filter like Big Burkey or something.

got some tough neighbors, closest one is ex military with a lot of weapons, next to him is an undercover narcotics detective so I think if things got rough we have some good people around us to work with.
Oh yeah! You are in a sweet spot. Nice property!
howdy today @squirrelbait! I have no idea what's going on today, just got on my replies tab, have spent almost no time on my Feed, been doing some outside work today.
regarding your compliments..thank you, it ain't bad, could be a little more isolated but it ain't bad.
