Last week's Fight Night was a bit boring IMO

Well, there were 2 exceptions and that was the match between Nina Nunes and Mackenzie Dern where Dern, who was expected to lose won her fight in the first round by a shocking submission. Also, Julian Marquez submitted Sam Alvey (who?) in the 2nd round.

yikes! Look at that extension - lucky she didn't break her arm

Other than that the entire card, main and under, was filled with fights that went the distance where it appeared as though most of the fighters weren't really going for it but rather were trying really hard to not lose. I call these sorts of fights "dancing contests" and to be honest, I stopped actively watching at many points to look at my phone. I suppose this is normal for Fight Night's and this is the reason why I don't pay them much attention.

There were a few upsets in there but mostly from names on the undercards that I don't even really know who the people were. I was happy to see Da-An Jung do well because I really want to see more South Koreans rise up in the ranks. So far, we only really have "The Korean Zombie" to look forward to and unfortunately, he seems to be in decline. Perhaps Jung can be the next great hope for the Koreans.

With his decision victory over William Knight he remains undefeated since joining the UFC in 2019 and maybe we'll get to see him fight some big names soon. At the moment he remains outside of the top 15 but to be fair, the light heavyweight division is absolutely stacked with talent at the moment. I think he needs to get on a main card vs one of the bigger names before we will see what he is truly made of.

Perhaps I am being a bit of a pain in the backside here, but I hate it when fights go the distance and while I understand a win is a win and fighters are sometimes afraid to go for it out of fear of getting too many "L's" on their record, a decision victory isn't really impressing anyone - especially not Dana White who, like it or not, controls the fate of every fighter in the UFC.

The night was already going to be a bit of a disappointment because the main event was changed at the last minute when Darren Till injured his collarbone in training. That's likely going to take a while to heal and it might be a while before we see him again. Also, since Vittori is already ranked higher than Kevin Holland, a man who had little time to prepare for this fight and Marvin still failed to really impress in the fight, it is unlikely he is going to move up in the rankings unless UFC removes Darren Till from the rankings during his injury.

Maybe it is just me but when nights go this way with most of the fights going to a decision, I find it very boring. Maybe I just need more violence and blood to be entertained and outside of a few moments, Fight Night this past week was quite possibly the most boring UFC event of 2021 thus far.

What do you think?
