"Azulejos"- Portuguese tile mosaics.

in #life9 years ago (edited)

Azulejos is the name painted clay tiles covered with glazed pattern.
Standard size Azulejos - 14x14 centimeter . Tile is laid out real paintings on the walls of Portuguese buildings Dating back to the XV century.
The most famous and oldest Azulejos can be seen by visiting the Royal Palace in Sintra or the Museum of Azulejos in Lisbon...
But much more interesting to find these works during regular walks through the streets of Portuguese cities. So we, walking in the Park in Lisbon, turned into what the street and went to the old building around the perimeter was decorated with mosaic pictures. Then found out that it was the pavilion Carlos Lopes...
The building itself is in poor condition and clearly in need of repair and restoration. Azulejos but it still beautiful and bright.
One was able to see the ship sailing through the ocean on the constellation of the Pleiades.

The second depicts some sort of battle...

In fact, the mosaics on the pavilion a lot more than I show. Will be in Lisbon and will be able to find the pavilion Lopes - you will see all the paintings that decorate it... and the building itself is decorated around the perimeter with sculptures, moldings, balconies and porches, I think you will love.

We wish you interesting journeys!
