Lots of eggs!

in #fact8 years ago (edited)

Did you know?

A chicken lays about 300 eggs per year.

That is a lot of work a chicken has to do. So you basically get an egg almost every day!

Considering my very own egg consumption I would say one chicken would be enough for the whole supply. Depending on where you live, you might need more.
Funfact: There are as many chickens on earth as humans. Mostly of course for the meat production.

Chicken are held in huge farms with hundreds of thousands of individuals and more or less in not very friendly conditions. There is a very sad story to it, that many of you might not be aware.

Only female chicken are used in the meat production - so where do the male chicken go? The birth rate is equally distributed - half of the hatched chickens are male and half of it are female. The male chickens that are not useful for the meat production will simply be killed after hatching.

I hope you find these facts about chickens as interesting as I do!
