Saturn Up-Close
The Cassini spacecraft is doing a series of close dives around Saturn, so we have some cool pictures
This picture was taken on 2017-07-24, by the Cassini Spacecraft. The Cassini Spacecraft is in the process of taking massive dives around Saturn and getting close-up pictures. People are calling this the grande finale. Scientists are doing this because, after 20 years, the power supply on the spacecraft is running low. They do not want the spacecraft to smash into any of the moon's, possibly contaminating them with microbes and metals. This would mean we get incorrect results when we search them for life in the future. [1]
On the picture you can easily see the rings on the left half of the screen, but if you look closer you can see a haze above the planet. This haze is the stratosphere of Saturn. By the time Cassini reaches this point on its finale dive in September we will have already lost contact with it.[2]
