Symbolism in architectural details

Today I want to show you these buildings I came across in a Bulgarian town some months ago. The town is well known actually. As it was built to celebrate communism about 70 years ago.
Its name is Dimitrovgrad and comes from the name of our so famous communist leader Georgi Dimitrov.
Nowadays, the success of propaganda in the deification of certain personalities and the cult of personality then, continues to amaze me. Among other things that amaze me in this political regime.

But today we are talking about architecture here. And more precisely - about certain details in this architecture.
Because:

there is a hammer and sickle over one of the entrances to one of these buildings.
A real, preserved sickle and hammer.

Its presence here is rather strange. First of all, the buildings are in poor condition. Here they have changed the entrance door, but otherwise the whole building looks very bad with peeling plaster and crumbling terraces.
And yes, these buildings are habitable. People still live in them.

Secondly, I want to say that I am extremely pleased and happy that I was able to photograph this relic, which seems (but only seems) that has long lived its time and does not belong to reality now. Because you know how quickly and easily some material things disappear in this world and heritage and history are erased in an instant.

But here comes the second part - something even more unexpected and completely opposite, perhaps:

Because this is a decoration above the entrance to the next building. And this is again a communist building built in honor of communism.

Oh, I remember that symbol, the symbol of peace, widely used during this regime when I was little. I even remember a children's art festival, organized then, which was called 'Flag of Peace' and bore a similar symbol in its logo... And it turns out that communism and peace went hand in hand then. Or not? Or it was just imposed by the daughter of the country's communist leader, who (the daughter) was later assassinated anyway.

But anyway. Today I will refrain from analysis. I just wanted to show you these two details. Standing very close to each other. Two things that look so opposite, but in fact connected... Demonstrating the ability and need to compromise and the need for tolerance perhaps...
