Animals and war

I really don't know what people do during a war with their pets. All those people who fled to other countries. All who were forced to take only the most valuable with them. And of course, their pets as family members.

Of course, with dogs it's easier. Although, nothing is easy when you flee. But what about cats? Guinea pigs, turtles, snakes? What about fish?

(Pictures I'm showing you in this post present two of 'our' cats, carelessly fighting on the lawn in the garden, having no idea what war is and not realizing how lucky they really are.)

I'm a cat lover and I can only say something about these animals.
Yes, I know there are people who travel the world (even by boat) with their cat. There are people who make the Camino with a cat. But cats usually belong to the house where they were born or where they eventually have landed.

And knowing that, and even though I'm forced to take care of cats right now, I've already decided for myself that I don't want to look after animals anymore. I mean, I don't want to own animals as pets . Not just because of cases like the current one. But because of some very ordinary cases that may prevent me from taking care of them in the best way. Because of some painful moments and situations in my life.

I'm not sure if people consciously choose their pets, if they choose them with the awareness that they are responsible for caring for them for the rest of their lives, no matter what. I guess not. Just as children are not created completely consciously.

But speaking of single pet owners, I wonder what people with animal shelters do, those whose lives are a mission to care for animals. And those who raise livestock? What do they do when there is a war and their owners have to flee?

Did the creators of wars think about this aspect of them? Because animals have no guilt. They have nothing to do with the mindless decisions of human beings.

When I was a kid and watching war movies on TV, I really lamented the horses that were 'killed' on the battlefields. Not the soldiers, but the animals. Without being able to realize that this is just a movie. Because they have no guilt.

And yes, I don't think much has changed since then.

steem.jpgSoul's Detour is a project started by me years ago when I had a blog about historical and not so popular tourist destinations in Eastern Belgium, West Germany and Luxembourg. Nowadays, this blog no longer exists, but I'm still here - passionate about architecture, art and mysteries and eager to share my discoveries and point of view with you.

Personally, I am a sensitive soul with a strong sense of justice.
Traveling and photography are my greatest passions.
Sounds trivial to you?
No, it's not trivial. Because I still love to travel to not so famous destinations.🗺️
Of course, the current situation does not allow me to do this, but I still find a way to satisfy my hunger for knowledge, new places, beauty and art.
Sometimes you can find the most amazing things even in the backyard of your house.😊🧐🧭|

You are right - I am sure that pets, animals in general, become secondary in a war. Look, you mention films. It's not for nothing that animals usually have no place in dystopian scenarios. Individual animal beings still clinging to life there seem out of place and anachronistic.

In dystopian scenarios, depending on the scenario, maybe only wild animals can survive. No domestic animal would do that. Not without people. Therefore, on the one hand, the domestication of animals, and even more - the genetic selection of animals and the creation of new species is monstrous and selfish.
Well, that's not the point now, I know. I really hope that after such great cataclysms, people will realize and start thinking differently, start doing different things and change their lives.
