Raw Pickle and???

Clear your mind of everything.

Ok

Now, think of mango pickles: mature, somewhat mellow, too much flavour?

Were they always like this?

No, really not! To become the delicious, complex pickle we love, it undergoes a series of transformation. It's soaked in brine, mixed with salt, and spiced up. Over time, it changes, becoming something richer and more layered...

But they were crisp once. Fresh, with tight skin, the unripe green colour, and maybe too much potential...

The process, though, is a transformation. They say pickling is a great way to preserve many vegetables. If you want pickles to store for a long period, you will need to process them in hot oil after making them.

A little cruel! Isn't it?

This transformation though...does it mirror the lives of many ~^~ ? (a question mark for now) Born with vibrancy and promise, they are gradually shaped by society's expectations. From a young age, they're immersed in cultural norms, much like a pickle in brine or oil...

Then comes the salt! The traditions which also act like salt, trying to preserve the so-called values and roles, ensuring that some core aspects remain unchanged—like respect for elders and family responsibilities... Or is it just a facade?

What are your thoughts about the spices in mango pickles? Do they represent life's varied experiences?

Some add sweetness, like the joy of celebrations and family bonds. Others add heat, reflecting the struggles against societal constraints and the pursuit of personal dreams in a world that often sets limits...

Through this process, these ~^~ ? absorb and adapt, developing a unique identity. Their journey is not always easy, but it makes them resilient and strong. Just as a mature pickle enhances a meal, a ~^~ shaped by their experiences, brings depth and richness to their family and community...

In the end, both the pickles and ~^~ ?
symbolize transformation—proof of the power of time, resilience, and the balance between tradition and individuality. Any idea who I am talking about?

I am almost certain that you do...

To be more specific, my text is more of a representation and reflection of that particular entity in my social sphere. But no, I don't agree! They are universal. Their struggles are universal. Their uniqueness is universal. Their ability to be a lioness at times and vulnerable at others is universal.

And to be absolutely honest, these are not even my ideas. I read a poem, "Keri ka Achaar," and it's been 24 hours that I have been searching for this poem on YouTube and Google without success. From there, I get this flashback: my mother is making mango pickles. I'm at her place, witnessing the process, and I can't take the idea of this poem out of my mind...

Now re-read the whole prose and replace ~^~ ? with women. Does it make any sense?

I think it does...

Sort:

At first, I was eager to read how you guys cook unripe mango because it is my first time seeing such delicacy.

But as I read further, I realized the use of “metaphor” in the post. Using the mango pickles to describe the complex journey women go through and you actually did a good job highlighting their resilience and the balance between tradition and individuality.

Now re-read the whole prose and replace ~^~ ? with women.

Thank God u gave the answer, I would have been confused or probably replaced ~^~ this with “men”.😊😊

Thank you so much for reading until the end.

As I mentioned in my post, this idea is not entirely mine. I heard a poem at our ladies' club, and someone also sent me a YouTube link to it around the same time. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find that link now. However, the idea stuck with me, and when I saw these pickles being processed at my parents' home, the poem came back to me.

You can always replace "women" with "men" in this context. I'm sure many of you would relate to it. It's not even about men or women, I think. It's about the responsibilities that a person has to fulfill, the life they have to endure, and the moments of reflection they encounter along the way. This poem, and the pickles, serve as a reminder of the enduring human spirit and the shared experiences that bind us all.

I was not sure people will read it upto end. Thanks a lot for this :)

A very poetic image. True to a certain extent: it may well happen that one of the pieces of mango falls off the table and is forgotten... Down there, an alternative story takes its course ;-))

Hi Dear Sister ! The way you've beautifully woven the importance of relationships and various aspects of life into a pickles recipe, and explained it with such clarity, is truly remarkable.

Actually it's about the women and their transformation; adaptability and their journey...

The journey of a woman that can be beautifully compared to the process of curing pickles. Just as pickles transform and mature over time in oil or brine, so too does a woman evolve, adapting and molding herself through the various phases of life.

From a young age, a woman begins her journey with fresh dreams and aspirations. Like raw pickles, she possesses a unique flavor, waiting to be enriched by the experiences that lie ahead. As she immerses herself in the world, facing challenges and embracing opportunities, she begins to absorb the essence of life, much like pickles soaking in the rich, flavorful brine.

And I have added in the end that these particular women are from East! And more specifically Indopak subcontinent. Now called Pakistan and India.

The nazm "keri ka achar" کیری کا اچار

Which is the main idea behind this prose is written by an Indian woman, I guess... I have been trying to track it. If someone has come across it, do let me know!

Oh I see. I looked at it from a different perspective. :-)

Women understand women's talk better, and if my wife had read your post, she would have understood its depth perfectly.

Mango with great potential ...spices, salt, marinades... mango becomes persistent, strong, incredibly tasty... and here the last thing is important, delicious... everything ends with a meal ...
Where are the pickled mangoes? And they've already been eaten.
All right, prepare the others🤣😂 😅

This is our life, if we turn to the metaphor of pickled "cucumbers" :)

You got it right, well kind of...

I have replied to another commenter here:

I'm not always serious, or rather, I almost never am))
I think you've noticed that.
As a metaphor for life, you can take any of the cooking processes. But there is a "cook" in any of them.
In our life, the role of a cook is played by a "system", or a society with its own "culture".
I would like to take metal hardening as a metaphor for men. But this will not be enough, you will have to involve the steel smelting process, and before that, ore extraction.
After all, you can't get a solid blade out of bad steel.
And in this way, you can go far into the deep depths.
And the results are now in the world ... below average. Very little quality steel :)
Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish by behavior ... is it a man or a girl))

My tongue can't hold back the urge to try it, I really like various rujak☺️, I'm thinking about how I can try it hehehe, Kuta is too far away sister, if it's near me I'll definitely try it at home 😁

The transformation of mango into a complex and flavorful pickle is what a traveler, especially a woman, spends a lot of time fearing. From the beginning of their life, which is full of different phases , just like pickle brine and spices. This action, which is a mixture of sweetness and intensity, fulfills the various experiences and challenges of life.

Hence the struggle has proved the essence of resiliency and individuality. Just like a ripe pickle adds fun to a meal, women too add fun to their families and children through their unique journeys. This reflection of the power of time, darkness, and personal growth is universal and deep.

Thank you for sharing this insightful piece, which is inspired by “Keri ka Achaar”. These pickles remind us of the strength and complexity found in the women of our lives.
Btw, I love pickles XD
