Improving on my solar powered AC inverter
My project of pumping water from a barrel that stores condensate water has been a success. Ive emptied the barrel a few times this year. And when the humidity comes around it will be emptied every few days. This solar rig has a secondary use, to power an inverter that converts 12 volt DC to 120v AC.

I tried doing this using a terminal bar, but would get weird surging occurring in my solar charge controller and inverter. I think it had to do with how far this DC connector was from the battery. So in this video I move it closer to the battery. Actually directly into the terminals the battery connects to.
After moving I test again and now able to run a blender though my power drill draws too many amps. My inverter is rated for 400W and my drill is close to 700W when loaded. I tested the drill without load and seems to work so still nice to know its improving.
Since I moved the connector it seems to be running better now, voltage looks good on the AC side and the battery seems to be keeping up when my solar panel is getting light. But since this is not a universal battery I did not want to keep cycle it, so kept its voltage above 11 volts.
Once I get a better suited battery and maybe double them up for 48V Ill get a bigger inverter. But for now having 400W power supply is nice to have in a pinch. To use a larger inverter I would need a secondary enclosure as the smaller 400w unit barely fits inside the current storage box. I could not leave it outdoors as its not designed to get wet.
Not sure why my universal amp reader would not work. I believe I used it correctly but since that was its first time use maybe Im missing something. It worked out well for a DC voltmeter though. And used to to make sure my battery did not drain too far.
Maybe when I find a universal battery locally ill buy one or two. Though shipping might throw out my mail carriers back as they weigh 60 pounds or more. In the mean time ill use my standard car battery and ill just be mindful of not deep cycling it causing it to lose its efficiency.
