Finding Something to Like About Moving
We are pretty set up, but there's still a pile of boxes. It's mostly stuff I don't know what to do with, but there's almost certainly stuff in there I will soon realize I need. I'm having a bit of a time motivating myself to finish it up, so I'm trying to psych myself up by finding things I really like about moving.
I'm 43, and this move took a toll on me physically. By no means am I old, but packing, moving, unpacking, shit. I was just beat for days and days. I was sore and totally exhausted. Now I seem to have picked up some kind of virus. Shocking, I know.
The unpacking part isn't so bad, though, right? I really love organizing things. I've got the Mary Poppins “a place for everything, and everything in its place!” thing going on. It absolutely thrills me to have everything all set up in the perfect spot. You know, so kids can come in and totally undo all the progress.
One of my issues here is storage space. This house has no closets, no shelves, and no attic or other storage. That's honestly not that uncommon here, but it does leave me in a bit of a pickle. I have a couple different shelf things, but I'm running out of space fast. However, I don't have a lot of money. Do you have any super easy, inexpensive storage solutions? Under the beds are pretty well filled. That is mostly empty suitcases, though, so maybe that's an option for storage. Everyone who visits us brings an extra suitcase of things we can't get in the US and just leaves the suitcase here. I should open a suitcase store.
Here's what I did in the bathroom that came only with that tiny little cabinet. Those drawers used to have my daughter's art supplies which is why they're covered in paint.
We don't even have cabinets in the kitchen, but they did have this buffet in here, and I've made it work. That has all pots, pans, baking stuff, and dishes other than glasses and utensils. Then almost all our dry food is in the top cabinets. I know. I'm a boss.
I was able to make significant progress in the kids room, but we still have a ways to go. There's a bunch of crap under the bed. The big problem here is bookshelves! See that box on the floor? I need shelves that are that small width wise.
Now, here's my room that I share with my daughter half the year. It's the farthest from finished. This is where I need some help. It's a huge room, so there has to be something I can do, but what in the world can I do about those bins?! Christmas stuff, baby clothes, crap, and more crap. I swear I got rid of 90% of my stuff before moving to Belize. Where does this stuff come from?
I tell you what I'm seriously grateful for. Look at this yard.
And this porch!
This is a rental, so I'm definitely going to move again. I have no idea how many more times I can actually do it though. My mom has told me this was her last move for at least the last 4 moves. I love the organizing, but it's not worth the toll on my body!
I look forward to hearing y’all’s organization ideas!
