Flash Flood in Saudi Arabia, fatality reported
Parts of Saudi Arabia are under water. Heavy rain triggered flash flood in Jaddah on November 21. The Saudi Gazette said due to drainage failures, a man died when his ceiling collapsed under the weight of rain. The Saudi Red Crescent Authority said seven people died of electrocution. Al Jazeera reported schools shut down over safety concerns. Cars were floating and people were being rescued. Other found ways to enjoy excessive amounts of water following the deluge. One woman decided to wakeboard down the street.
Flooding wreaks havoc in Jeddah nearly every year due to poor infrastructure. In 2009, floods in the port city killed more than 100 people. Earlier this month, an anti-corruption committee led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrested some accused of mismanaging funds in infrastructure projects linked to 2009 disaster.
