Snowy Day in Dalian China. 100% Solarguy Photo Journal with Mutton Soup.

in #people-watching7 years ago

Woke up to a rare snow covered landscape, harsh winds and a whistling draft.

Dalian is the furthest north year round ice free shipping port in China. Russia saw the value of this and so did Japan. If it wasn't for those countries Dalian would never have been developed from a tiny fishing village into the bustling metropolis it has become today. All sorts of goods come down to the ports from pretty much anywhere north.

The thing is Dalian doesn't have a lot large snow removal vehicles for the streets, only the busiest and biggest streets get proper snow plowing. The little side streets like the one I live on in the photos simply get the "cars packing it down into ice treatment." Some places only the foot steps are all to keep the snow going over your ankles into your shoes.

You can really tell which shops care about the pedestrians and and aren't incredibly lazy. Most of these shops didn't even open today, maybe it's a Monday thing but China is mostly an "any day the sun rises the shops will be open kind of place."

Being from Canada a light snow such as this wouldn't have any Canadian bat an eye. We'd be like maybe we'll get more later. Nothing seems to stop Chinese people from venturing outside to get something to eat.

Seems like a good day for some homemade style goat soup. It's just so warming and a hearty lunch on a cold snowy day. I don't eat this often, almost never in the summer but this shop is close to home and I was hungry. It was my first time here. My usually mutton soup shop is much further away I can't be bothered to trek in the snow to get there. Here was ok, if I'm starving and nothing else is open I will return. ><

Maybe it's just another day but I got a 10 day vacation planned for the Philippines. in February, the perfect time to escape this lovely snow which I'd love even more if it was an everyday deal and not so sporadic.

woooow very nice ^^
have good day ^-^

Everyday is a good day.. Just requires the right eyes.

I look forward to your next post.

That soup looks awesome!
Did you dip your bread in it?
:D

That little alley with all the little shops looks so cool.

Im jelous!
:D

Hell yea I dipped the bread. haha. I only got the bread for that purpose. Though the bread here is kind of like an unsweetened donut rather the traditional Na'an type I get else where. It was still a satisfying lunch.

:D
Sure is the perfect weather for a hot bowl of something good.

Im getting hungry looking at the picts.
lol

The snow seems to be thriving for bright sunlight hehe.

The little snow here and there in the city looks absolutely amazing. ✊👏

Changzhou got an inch or so two weeks ago. There was also a nasty flu going around the city. Got it bad, it knocked me off line for a couple of days due to constant sleep. Keep warm up there!

Oh man, Dalian had/has a wicked flu going round. Like seriously.. I load up on vit. C and wash my hands at least, no joke, 10 times a day, I caught it a few weeks ago. It was a brutal flu, not the worst I've ever had but it was strong and un- remorseful then recent memory can recall.

All I can say (though i expect you got/had it already) is just fight it. You can't prevent.... Classic China (deep thoughts). lol

Where are you from back home? IM a southern Ontario boy, but been living in Busan, South Korea for half a decade and if it snows once a year, people are amazed.

Moving to China in a few months, Shanghai to be exact. How have you found living in China? interested to hear the perspective from a fellow Canuck

Well. you've said enough. i'm positive you know Muskoka, maybe even Washago, Gravenhurst areas where I was raised.

Toronto is my last my home though China is my home now. Have some of my life's best memories here. Though, just so you know, trading crypto in China is an uphill battle. Like seriously, all of crypto's wealth is fleeing this country. Getting good paying ESL teacher's salary is possible but if you're into crypto you'd make more anywhere else.

Shanghahi is a solid city if you're making 30k RMB a month, which unless you're a superstar you're not in Shanghai. I've been in China almost 6 years now so I have good idea of what a salary can provide in lifestyle. Depends if the cute girl in your profile photo is from downtown Shanghai. I said downtown for a reason.

Based on your steemit profile... uphill.. i will wait at the peak for you. I like many other crypto folks are fleeing.

Will Change your perspective on life.

PS
got family in the "rose city"

Small world. My family owns a cottage up in Nippising, I haven't been there in several years since I live abroad now, but I can still remember summer trips up there and fishing out on the lake.

Luckily I've been in Korea for a few years now, so I have been able to set up crypto accounts that link to my Korean bank accounts and also my Canadian accounts. Hopefully in China, all I will want to do is attach a bank account to possibly buy more steem.

As for the job, it's not quite an ESL position, it's working for a huge online company, and they offered me 28k/month to start so hopefully that will get me by.

The girl in my profile pic is Korean haha, hopefully she doesn't see this post and get offended haha. I have wechat already. Will add you for sure Look forward to further dialogue

wow nice food

It was Ok considering how hungry i was. LOL.

Lovely. going somewhere warm for the Chinese New Year holidays.
With someone?

No.... I'm going single.. My GF i mentioned, at her behest, and I broke up. Well, to be honest she dumped me new years day. I think.. my thoughts... language and cultural barriers. Dude, I gave her all my heart and she only cared about the things I either, didn't realize or considered too superficial. It really sucks. I'm rather heart broken over it.

I'm still looking for love but not in Dalian. Though my heart lives here.

New year. New life. Hope the holiday will bring you a good break.

Aloha from Maui!

Aloha Hawaii. You must be loving life when you see these photos. ^^

Island life is nice. We get snow in Hawaii too, on top of the volcanoes... The soup looks like something we'd eat here. :)
