Disconnected in a Digital World
Is The Digital World Causing Us To be Less Connected?
In a world that is full of smartphones, tablets and laptops, are people now less connected to each other in the real world. Although having access to our friends and family ANYWHERE in the world at a touch of a button, smartphone and digital device addiction is becoming more common-place, causing less and less interaction with real people.
The side-effects of digital addiction can have a long-term impact on a persons well-being, prolonged use causing headaches, lack of social skills, irritability, withdrawal symptoms and of course electromagnetic radiation can have a negative effect on one's health.
And with social gaming, encouraging people to log back in on a regular basis, IE to claim new lives, coins, bonuses etc. It seems that this social issue will not be going away anytime soon.
So what can you do? Make a decision to limit when and where you use your device, the amount of hours you spend per day, and if possible have a digital day off, switch off your electronic devices and then strike up conversations with real people. You may just enjoy it.

We are all being victims of the technology!
I just wonder if this "evolution" isn't too much for such a low amount of time.
I mean our parents had no computers (or big and slow computers), and in less than a generation we are almost discarding computers from our lives, only using mobile devices, etc...
A good point, and yes, I think the problem is that we are just too tied up in our devices, rather than other people... less communication and lesser social skills.
I agree completely with what you are getting at! I have blogged about this occurrence as well, in terms of how it affects the students I teach.
