A city a story photo weekly contest #12: Eating in Melbourne: Lello Pasta Bar
Last year for my birthday I went to an Italian restaurant called Yak which had delicious pasta. It has since become Lello Pasta Bar. I am not sure if they changed owners and chef but it seems like they still have similar dishes. I took my friends there for their last meal before going back to Taiwan and they loved it! Here is a review of what we had:
ROSEMARY BARBECUED CALAMARI
My friends ordered this to share and it was simply delicious. Much better than I was expecting. The calamari was very fresh and tender, grilled to achieve the perfect texture. The dressing had capers and anchovies, but was not overpowering. The zucchini & cucumber scapece added crunch to the dish. A standout.
LASAGNA
I had a bite of my friend's traditional lasagne which actually didn't use the traditional beef mince but was made from a beef ragu. Premium meat with a delicious sauce.
BREADCRUMB MALTAGLIATI
I ordered the maltagliati because I haven't had this kind of pasta before. It came with king prawns, saffron, white wine, fennel, chilli and fresh tomato. I know pasta is supposed to be al dente but I would have preferred the maltagliati to be a bit softer. There was a generous number of prawns but I think it could have been a bit fresher. Overall it was still an enjoyable dish.
