'10 bananas can stop Lukaku'
Racism is one thing that FIFA and many concerned sport lovers are trying to kill from the game. Even as they try with more awareness, the virus always finds it way into the sport.
A pundit in Italy, Luciano Passirani, 80, has been sacked for saying to stop Lukaku, you must have 10 bananas with you.
The pundit said this on a radio show, where Lukaku's impact in Inter Milan’s was being discussed.
Passirani was quoted saying,
They (Inter Milan) have something extra that the rest don’t have, and then they score the goals and drag your team forward. This guy kills you in the one-on-ones, if you try to challenge him you wind up on the floor. Either you have 10 bananas to eat, that you give to him, or …
The pundit has however apologised for the statement but the director of the show, Fabio Ravezzani said the apology was not enough
Ravezzani said,
Mr Passirani is 80-years-old and to compliment Lukaku he used a metaphor that turned out to be racist. I think it was a terrible lack of momentary lucidity. I cannot tolerate any kind of errors, even if momentary.
The director said the pundit is no longer welcome on the show again.
Many Blacks have faced racial statement in the sport but we believe that with time, this will leave our beloved game.
