We analyze with an infographic what would happen if the popular and controversial Bitcoin cryptocurrency was about a country based on factors such as the size of the economy, energy consumption, population and demography.

The financial swings of the virtual currency Bitcoin, the world leader in the cryptocurrency sector along with other emerging ones such as Ethereum or Ripple, monopolize the daily looks of interested in the possibilities offered by this new universe protected by blockchain technology, detractors and staunch defenders.

There is talk of the unaffordable energy expenditure involved in mining, the probability that the bubble burst or that we are facing an unprecedented economic miracle and as a payment method, we can see the digital currency in real estate portals, salaries of companies , business masters or even, famous fast food chains.

But what would happen if the Bitcoin were a country? A new infographic produced by the CoinList team and with which we accompany this article explores the success of Bitcoin comparing it with other countries in the world, taking into account factors such as the size of the economy, energy consumption, population and demography.

If the Bitcoin were a country...

Economy: If Bitcoin were a country and we compared the value of market capitalization with countries' GDP, it would rank as the 58th richest country in the world, located below Qatar and above Kazakhstan.

Energy consumption: Due to the high energy consumption caused by cryptocurrency mining, Bitcoin would occupy the 60th position among the regions that demand the most energy. For example, it would consume more energy than Belarus, Denmark, Serbia and Morocco, among others.

Population: Since Bitcoin can be bought and sold anonymously, it is difficult to calculate how many people own Bitcoin. However, we do know that at least 13 million people use one of the main Bitcoin exchange providers, Coinbase. If we compare the population of Bitcoin users with the inhabitants of countries around the world, Bitcoin would be the 75th most populous country in the world, located just below Somalia and just above Guinea and South Sudan.

Population growth: The number of people who use Bitcoin doubles every 12 months. If we compare this data with the growth of the population of other countries, Bitcoin would clearly be the country with the fastest population growth on the planet. To put it in perspective, Lebanon is in second place with 9.37%. Assuming that the current Bitcoin population is 13 million, by 2020 the figure would have increased to 39 million users.

Profile of inhabitant: The profile would be mostly male - 90% of Bitcoin users identify themselves as men - and very young, aged between 25 and 34 years.

Average salary: The average income for Bitcoin owners is between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars. Therefore, if Bitcoin were a country, its citizens would be the sixth richest in the world, after some countries such as Luxembourg, Switzerland and Norway.

This anpretty neat comparison. I had always heard that mining consumes a lot of power but, more than all of Denmark??? That's insane. I wonder when that will become a political issue? Any thoughts? Really like the infographic you put together, care to share what tool you used?
